Not bad.
Some cool characters. The story seems ok so far
But it doesn't manage to keep me interested in going forward and I can't really say why ...

Really?
I am actually thinking of reading the books based on what I've seen so far.
But I like fantasy.
Yeah, but isn't it YA fantasy?

Isn't most stuff, though?
Was The Witcher not YA?
Game of Thrones wasn't YA fantasy and neither was Carnival Row. Besides implying that most stuff is YA ( so presumably why bother complaining ) doesn't actually address the issue that Shadow of Bones is made for kids.
Quasimodo, you can discount my POV all you want, that still won't make Carnival Row a quality show. [shrug]
" that Shadow of Bones is made for kids."
yeah, i feel that this is my problem. A bit too much for kids ...
Which is why I stopped watching it. “Young adult” is a euphemism for “teenager.”

I personally don't mind. It wasn't too childish or anything, plus with my Russian background I found the world in this quite interesting and elaborate.
I mean, Stranger Things is one of the most enjoyable things I've ever seen, so no, "teenager" is definitely not a deterrent for me. OR some kind of automatic disqualifier.
Stranger Things was watchable for the first season but after that it was rinse and repeat garbage. And what was remotely enjoyable about Winona Ryder's fingernails-down-a-blackboard "acting" or the boys constant bickering in season one ? Millie Bobby Brown is a very good actress but that was one of the few things that Stranger Things had going for it.
Unlike you, I am not going to try to prove anything.
But you already have proved something exatera, that you have lousy taste in TV shows.
To whom, to an altogether limited person like you? 🙄 Somehow your perception of things is highly irrelevant to me.
Also, why do you even keep responding?? Just go and watch something you do find enjoyable. Don't impose your views on others.
Don't impose your views on others.
A case of the pot calling the kettle black.
The Witcher is quite adult oriented. Specially the games/books.
The show too, it's NOT as teenager oriented as S&B.
Once again though, why is it a problem?
Depends what do you mean by "a probleam"
Is there a problem generally speaking with a movie targeted at kids/teenagers? Nope.
My problem is that it doesn't appeal to me because of that ...
I feel like you are missing out.
Wayne, Teenage Bounty Hunters, Sex Education, The End of the F-ing World, Cobra Kai all were some of the most enjoyable viewing experiences for me. And I can probably name a dozen more if I think about it.
Really hoping Wayne gets renewed. 🤞 It's bad enough Teenage Bounty Hunters weren't.
There's a HUGE difference between movies with teenagers (The end of the F-ing World is a good example) and movies FOR teenagers ...

Well, I don't see how Shadow and Bone is specifically for teenagers. [shrug]
Sure, it's a little too demure, but that doesn't bother me, just like graphic sex and violence don't.
The Witcher? Not the books. It was kind of a proto-grimdark with a good measure of healthy postmodernism.
shareI've watched the first four episodes and it's making ' Carnival Row ' look pretty good by comparison. There isn't a single actor in S&B that is standing out to me. The story isn't bad but it's not great either, not yet anyway.
This is much more interesting than Carnival Row.
No it isn't. Not by a long chalk. Unless you like Marvel films and lots of people with different super powers I guess.
Well, to you maybe, to me Carnival Row was entirely unremarkable, and its plot not intriguing.
I mean, there was a reason it got such mediocre reviews.
I will not be back for season 2 after that blah ending.
So Carnival Row's plot was "not intriguing" and it was "entirely unremarkable". Very vague and subjective criticism.
Yes Carnival Row got some mediocre reviews and some great reviews and no doubt some damning reviews. Which ones you choose to back up your argument with is a matter of personal bias though isn't it ?
One of the things that Carnival Row had all over Shadow and Bone is the acting and the actors. Much better actors and much better acting. And the story was more complex. Shadow and Bone has all the depth of a comic book so far.
For me it is the world setup. Way to complicated. I don't want to watch every episode multiple times to understand the background.
But nice cinematography...
I could tell that they left a lot out from the books, which is unfortunately common in this genre. It was one of the things that made me want to read, but we'll see how it goes.
But the show definitely could have benefited from a couple more episodes.
Not bad, but not good. There are some interesting secondary characters and the powers are cool, but we don't spend enough time with them to really get invested until it's almost over. The levels of good, bad and average acting are throwing me off from episode to episode and I'm honestly bored with the main characters, Alina, Malyen and General Kirigan.
