Craig Bond: best to worst now

CR - Bond Begins. Martin Campbell. obviously

SF - not a huge fan (daft Home Alone ending) but amazing visuals (Deaks) that blade runner fight, and the whole Bondmania of the 50th was important for any fan (even outgrossed Dark Knight Rises lol)

SPEC - its seems ludicrous to have this silly borefest in 3rd place but can't see any other way. Some nice stuff tho (Monica, eerie 'Eyes Wide Shut' meeting, train fight)

NTTD - some nice john wick style action and homages to previous 007s (Dr No, YOLT, OHMSS, TSWLM, MR, FYEO, TLD, LTK). but its basically Spectre 2. and that ending! its like the Last Jedi of Bond films! (jumping on the 'main character has little daughter and dies' thang from nu SW/Logan/Endgame)

QoS - 'bourne'ing as hell. aside the opera scene.

Casino Royale
Quantum of Solace
Skyfall
Spectre

Haven't seen NTTD.

So, not counting NTTD, I rank them in production order.

Casino Royale
Skyfall
Quantum of Solace
Spectre
No Time To Die

reply

I would place Spectre above Skyfall and put NTTD at the bottom. No question that Casino Royale was the best.

For me

Casino Royale
NTTD
Skyfall
Spectre

reply

1. Casino Royale
2. No Time to Die
3. Skyfall
4. Spectre
5. Quantum of Solace

reply

This is my ranking, but there are big empty voids between rankings...

1. Casino Royale (exceptional movie... maybe the best Bond film ever)
2. NTTD (a mediocre movie albeit with some great action sets)
3. Skyfall (gorgeous to look at - absolutely atrocious script)
4. Spectre (how do you make James Bond boring?)
5. QOS (What's the point of an action movie when you can't tell what is going on with a million edits?)

reply

I'm pretty much in agreement with your assessments, although I'd call Skyfall's script flawed, but not bad - and that No Time to Die starts off mediocre, but gets better and winning by the end.

reply

Guess I forgot to write that part where I agreed with your ranking! That's why I was responding to you. :)

reply

lol, got it. I'm fairly happy with the 5-movie Craig Bond "miniseries" overall. I still love the classic Bond era (Connery through Dalton), but at least the Craigs were a step-up from the Brosnan series for me.

reply

Not a fan of The Brosnan Era overall, nonetheless GoldenEye deserves more credit than it deserves

reply

If anything Goldeneye is severely overrated. In actually it’s your typical, average run of the mill Bond film at best.

reply

1. Skyfall (3rd overall)
2. Casino Royale (5th overall)
3. Spectre (16th overall)
4. Quantum Of Solace (23rd overall)
5. No Time To Die (Dead Last Place)

reply

Couldn't care less about any of them. Craig is not Bond. There needs to be a reboot of the reboot and go back to the Connery/Moore style.

reply

What they need to do is quit having an overarching narrative. Just go back to the days when each film was a standalone adventure. No more interconnected Bond universe.
