It's just a number...

Bullshit! It's not just a number. It's THE ICONIC NUMBER. The number that spanned 50 years+, survived every battle, even against other double 0 traitors or double 0 missions where some didn't make it until this movie decided to do away with it all by killing the number literally and metaphorically. Almost like saying it's just a gender or franchise, etc.

Try 50+ years

60+ counting the novel's it started with

68 years since Ian Fleming in 1953 and 59 years since the 1962 movie Dr. No. Most if not ALL the Bond covers have the 007 or similar iterations of it.

Yes but you'll notice most of these are using the 7 as part of the gun logo.

Guns are a terrible thing to promote to children as a positive image. Hopefully the next James Bond will be more sensitive to such negative cultural re-enforcements and thus proudly declare his / her refusal to use such weapons going forward.

At which point they'll no longer require the 007 number in order to cash in on the associated branded merchandise.

In the Norway arrow massacre, the psycho attacked the cops but they had no guns to kill him. He killed the civilians after that. Europeans are the world's pussies!

Yes, they say that's why there are never, ever any mass shootings in the United States.

It's because any would be perpetrators know that the armed police would be ready to shoot them with their guns.

Bond left the service. Next agent got his number. What do you suggest for MI6 to do? Vacate the number for ever? They need the freaking numbers dude....

reply

There's only 1 possible number in the universe and it's 007.

It's impossible to think of any other number, ever...

reply

What do you suggest for MI6 to do

It isn't real by the way

If James Bond isn't 007 the it isn't bond and if 007 isn't James Bond then it isn't 007

The man is the number, the number is the man

You clearly didn't get the point of my post hence the knee jerk comment of relegating it back to what the movie was trying to portray it as, at least until near the end when Bond regains his iconic number. I wasn't complaining about Nomi using the designation since his absence but the banter they've exchange demeaning it to just a petty number, which it isn't. Also, if you're going to assign the iconic number to someone, it better be the best of the best of all the other agents.

well yeah , to avoid possibly disastrous confusion.
Lot of other industries do this with names / handles ,
Server names for instance

They just did these little things to make certain people happy + earn a few more bucks. Is this enough to keep me from paying $15 to see this at the theater? yeah.

i hated that line.. i mean what were the writers thinking?
