Film critic Scott Mantz wrote that though he needed more time to process the film, it was certainly better than Bond films “Quantum” and “Spectre.” “It’s Daniel Craig’s most grounded and — dare I say it? — most intimate take on #JamesBond with a powerful, unexpected & very emotional payoff,” Mantz said. “Def worth the wait!”

Fandango writer Erik Davis said that the film was “a perfect finale for Daniel Craig.”

“Classic Bond, classic villain, classic gadgets & a story that seems to question how much we still need James Bond to save the day,” Davis wrote. “Terrific writing & stunning direction from Cary Joji Fukunaga. Loved every second!”

Variety awards editor Clayton Davis mused that “No Time to Die” was Craig’s greatest movie as Bond. “The final entry of Daniel Craig’s time as James Bond is the finest of his tenure,” Davis wrote. “#NoTimeToDie is effective in action, emotional beats and once again, an artisan mastery helmed by Linus Sandgren, Tom Cross and the sound team. Highly enjoyable & I’m NOT a typical Bond enthusiast.”

Yeah.

I'm not very trusting of film critics in general. And I think the initial hype for big movies like this is always just that, hype. It's propaganda to get people excited, e.g. "Omg, so many critics loved this movie. Omg, it made so much money in the first few weekends". Consider me cynical but I see stuff like this the equivalent to a laugh track. Laugh tracks inspire people to laugh when they might not have otherwise. Seeing other ppl speak positively, prime you to also think positively.

This movie could be great; I'm looking forward to checking it out. But I'm checking out because I always check out the new Bond film, and I really like Daniel Craig. But I have no faith in the legitimacy of these early reviews.

great point about early reviews, so many are studio shills. There's a couple of popular critics on YouTube that I like..probably have to wait a couple of weeks until the U.S. release it'll be interesting to see what they say.

With the first reactions thing, A friend of mine explained it basically as, critics not wanting to offend/anger the studios. Cause you get free screening & you're the first people to actually see it. They don't wanna lose that kinda access.

They always praise it with the first reactions but when the embargo lifts, their reviews are mostly negative

It's basically lying & having to fake enthusiasm just so they don't have to lose access & the perks. I guess critics are humans too. lol

Just a few years ago, I remember Disney banned the LA times reporters from that kind of access cause the paper did some investigative reporting on the Disney theme park's bad working conditions in LA

First reactions to Bond movies are almost always positive from British reviewers.

The Guardian gave Spectre 5 stars and have now just given No Time to Die the same rating just as I predicted they would.

We’re definitely a bit biased when it comes to James Bond movies.

The odds of it being good are in the film's favor. Daniel Craig's era/Bond films have been good, meh, good again, meh again respectively

Honestly, hope he's goes out out on a high note. I genuinely do like him as Bond.

I gotta agree with this. I think it has a great director and I like most of the cast involved. I also like Craig just fine as Bond and really hope that he goes out on a high note!

Nearly every critic who gets early access to any movie will 99% of the time be positive as they want early access and free stuff for the next movie and so on and so on.

Modern day critics are not critics anymore. They are either there to advertise, praise and hype the movie or writing a hit piece to push an agenda of some kind.

Veyr rarely do we ever get a fair assessment of a movie anymore from a critic

Hey stupid peoples. Stop your stupid conspiracy theories about paid reviewers!

There were a dozen critic screenings, over a thousand watched NTtD. The embargo for full reviews was noon BDT and my OP was before that.

Those tweet reviews are a small minority from the London premiere. Full reviews range from 5/10 to 10/10 on metacritic.

Just watch the damn movie and make your own opinion, and then you can make a discussion thread that's actually about the movie.

You're the only one here that said that reviewers were paid.

There's no need to pay them. They will say what the company wants or they won't be picked again. After a few pre-releases and the subsequent cleaning, the ones that keep being picked are the docile compliant ones.

These are NOT "First Reactions".

These are "Company Picked Friends Reactions" that will say whatever the company wants them to say. First Reactions will happen once the movie is released.

This is just part of the Marketing campaign.
