I’m surprised Dr. No scores so low, I’d move it into the top ten, otherwise I pretty much agree with it but I’d change the order of the top ten a little.

reply

yawn to all of them.

reply

Quantum of Solace just doesn't seem to get a break...

reply

That's because it's a big, steaming pile of shit.

reply

I know we would all make some personal adjustments but over all a very respectable list. I would add NSNA to the top third (yes I know I'm the only one in the world who feels that way =] ).

reply

This list is trash and what fucking experts?

reply

Exactly. Whats the difference between a Superfan and an expert? The expert is a superfan of a bunch of different movies?? So stupid.

my top 5 Bonds (in no particular order other than year and not taking into account which is deemed the best general opinion/RT etc):

Goldeneye is a pretty bad Bond film, and has aged very badly. People just reflexively tend to call it good...and maybe remember it through rose-colored glasses. It (may) have been the best of the Brosnan films....but that's not saying much at all. People WANTED to love Brosnan in the role. (Afterall, he looked good in the tux, right?) So when a new Bond film finally came around, and it was Brosnan's first (so everything felt fresh)....people tried hard to like it (and even convinced themselves that they did).

But this was a pretty lame movie. Bland, even off-putting Bond Girls.....lame villains (except Sean Bean, who was ok). And goofy-ass Alan Cumming almost single-handedly ruined the movie. (And I won't even mention Joe Don Baker!)

Brosnan prances around in his Bond movies almost always wearing a tuxedo, not a hair out of place, over-using stupid puns, and worrying about whether or not his little martinis are shaken or stirred.

Daniel Craig, by contrast, looks like a guy who could kill someone with his bare hands. That free-running scene at the beginning of Casino Royale had more thrills and physicality in it than any 3 Brosnan films combined.

I like Brosnan, especially in his non-Bond roles. But Goldeneye gets remembered way, way too fondly.

I actually think Goldeneye is a pretty decent Bond film. It has its flaws but I overall view it as pretty solid Bond film but I do agree that it gets a little too much praise than it deserves nowadays. I absolutely hated Tomorrow Never Dies, TWINE is ok, & Die Another Day is the worst Bond film ever in my opinion.

I completely agree with your take on Daniel Craig's Bond. The guys is pretty much the Bond we needed and the Bond that Ian Fleming actually envisioned. He was this dark, cold, and tough assassin while also having a bit of that cool guy charisma but definitely not as much as Moore or Brosnan, which I am very happy about. Daniel Craig is definitely my favorite Bond and on these boards, the guy just receives constant hate now.

Apart from the one were he has a beard, instantly making him the most disheveled Bond we have seen on screen...

reply

LOL, a good point, FootOfDarvos!

Although I actually think Daniel Craig was even *more* disheveled in Casino Royale, come to think of it.
After the opening scene (in black & white...when he gets his second kill...in that bathroom fight to the death), we see him bloodied and drenched in water and sweat.

After the free-running chase near the beginning of the movie, he's again sweaty, disheveled and cut up. And in the next scene...when he's walking with M, and gets that tracking device implanted in his arm, he actually still has cuts and scrapes on his face.

In the scene when he fights the machete-wielding assassin in the stairwell, he returns to his room a bloody mess, and has to close his wounds, change his shirt....(and slug down a double scotch) before returning to the game.

In the scene where he finds Vesper sitting/crying in the shower, he climbs right in there with her, fully clothed, and gets soaked.

In the scene where he gets poisoned...and staggers out to his car to find the defibrillator, he's a full-on mess, drenched in a flop-sweat and hair all mussed up...tie loosened and shirt un-tucked.

I think Casino Royale is one of only a few Bond films to actually show Bond messed-up. That's part of what I like about the Daniel Craig films....he's a Bond who's not afraid to get his hands dirty.

I'm not sure, let's consider the evidence:-

Exhibit A: Brosnan, DAD:-

Exhibit B: Craig, CR:-

Brosnan LITERALLY looks like Will Ferrell gone to seed in Anchorman. Whereas Craig's more of a chest waxed metrosexual naughties version of Arnie...

reply

LOL, you're cherrypicking.

Sure, Brosnan was disheveled once...not from a fight or from action, but rather...because he had been a prisoner. For every one instance you may find of Brosnan looking anything other than primped and proper, I can find five examples of Craig looking roughed-up from having killed someone with his bare hands.

reply

Swap Goldfinger for The Living Daylights, and that's my top 5 (not in that order).

reply

Who cares what the scholars or superfans think? The odds of any two people having the exact same list of the best/worst Bonds is pretty low. Like what you want and forget the rest.
