Has Daniel Craig's ego hurt the series

I really like Daniel Craig as James Bond but now it took four years to get the next sequel. Most of the time the producers are compelling Craig to return. He took the series around 2006 and last movie is dated on 2020. So all he managed to give is 5 movies in 14 years. Next time the producers should get a proper deal with actors before casting them. You take a job, you do it. They are many who are waiting in the line and we have given you the chance so be respectful of the franchise.

Yes. Even superficially, his comments about not really liking the process of making the movies and rather slicing his wrists have damaged the image of the series.

A lot of the recent delay was the legal wrangling over the distribution rights and what not. But i'm not sure how Craig has so much clout as to actually be butting heads with directors and getting them fired. He's simply not a huge box office draw outside of the Bond series.

Yes, he thinks he's bigger than the role and comes across as a snob with his comments, the producers have stupidly bent over backwards for him and with too few 007 movies over such a long period of time it’s hurting the franchise.

reply

I don't think the original producers would have let Craig run around on so loose a leash. They seemed to have much tighter control over the whole circus.

reply

. . . and I guess we don’t know what a question mark is, do we?

reply

Craig is a cool dude.

reply

No matter who got the role, the studio would have still only put out the same number. It seems to be taking longer to make pictures now.

reply

As the Star Wars franchise has demonstrated, if you put out too many too fast, your audience will get tired and bored much quicker.

reply

The early 007 films with Connery and Moore were churned out pretty fast and so are Marvel movies for that matter, I'd like a Bond movie every 2-3 years mainly based on remaining stories and the books by other authors. That’s not too much to ask.

reply

Yes. His latest comments on how he feels about Bond and the franchise as a whole didn't do it any favors, and it's making him less likable. Though I know that if he makes a strong comeback now as he did with Skyfall, I will like him him again. xd

reply

More his lack of on screen charisma.

Nothing Craig says can be worse than every 007 movie he has done since CR. CR was one of the all-time best Bond movies ever. Then he went on to be in bottom-tier Bond movies that are near worthless.
What really hurt the series is the writing and directing. So bad.

There isn't anyone famous currently that is perfect (a few who are OK) so I'd like an unknown. As far as directors go, I would hope that they run with one who has proven that they can do action well. Although Mendes somehow delivered both grade A and grade D movies.
