Joel McHale
Is he his typical sarcastic humor guy or does he actually have a serious side to him for this movie??

shareI don't think it's possible to take him seriously.
shareThat, to me, just ruins the levity, of this film. If you're going to have a demonic/horror movie you don't need that humor character...Just stay pedal to the metal tension/edginess. The over-use of humor will just kill whatever suspense that is being built up!
shareI dunno. He played a lighter character, but he wasn't straight up comic relief, and his moments of humour were only in the first couple minutes. Afterwards he played it straight and didn't take away from the movie at all. At least in my opinion.
shareHe's a snappy police officer, but I'd not call it a comedic role. He gets one liners, but it's darker than THE SOUP, for sure.
shareThat was him???? LOL I thought that looked like him but then said to myself it couldn't be. He really bulked up. I liked his character. Actually, the scenes with him and bana were the best.

Can anyone tell me how McHale's character dies? I know it's a knife fight, but can anyone get into specifics?
He's been bulked up for awhile now, just can't usually tell. At least on The Soup where he's always in suits.
I liked his character the best. He was funny and serious, but he's also not even in half the movie.
I liked his character the best.
The perils of any movie starring Olivia Munn sans bikini shots, c'nest pas? In the director's cut, perhaps...
Same thing happened with me! I knew I recognized his face but I spent half the movie trying to work out where I knew him from or who he is, I did think it was him but I was like 'no it can't be'. I was very pleasantly surprised with him in this movie and he was my favourite character.
'You people. If there isn't a movie about it, it's not worth knowing, is it?'
I agree.
I didn't know him before this movie, so I don't have any preconceived opinion about him. He's the funny one in the cop duo, but his humor is not depicted much here, and he's far from a comic relief. He just adds to a realistic dynamic. Not everyone is dark and serious.
And he's kinda cute. I guess I will check his other works after this LOL
I also thought he was kinda cute. Reminded me of Michel Biehn of Aliens.
shareagreed. he doesn't even look like a cop.
shareSarcastic humor once again

Sensed that he was INTENDED to play a character of more gravity than typical: as brother and sister IMDBers have opined previously, his transition into actually playing a scene has yet to match the panache of co-star/fellow comic Eric Bana's transubstantiation into full blown thespian.
McHale cracks a couple of light jokes, but overall, he's a serious character.
I thought he sold it just fine. Did a decent job.

Do you smell taters?
I didn't even recognise it was him for his first few scenes. I thought it might be but I kept thinking 'no it can't be'. He actually did a really good job in this movie and I liked his character a lot. Shame I wasn't so keen on the movie itself. It was ok but nothing special.

his role was awesome. He seemed like an adrenaline junkie for sure. Love the scene when Bana asks if he needs help and mchale just snaps out his 2nd knife with precision and says "nope...I got it" totally cool.
shareAgreed. That was one of the better scenes. Also his "Do you think she's single?" line. Joel was definitely one of the highlights of the movie. I was skeptical that he could play a real role but he carried it off fine. As for his character being humorous, it's a device to make the viewer like him so that you actually give a darn about the character. Unlike many horror films where the victims are not sympathetic at all.
