Worst casting of the year?

Ashton Kutcher as Steve Jobs

But I'll let you guys decide. What other 2013 movie made a bad casting decision of a main character?

reply

His acting apparently.

Well, Tom Cruise as 6'7" man mountain Jack Reacher springs to mind.

But unlike Ashton Kutcher, Tom Cruise is actually a good actor and "Jack Reacher" turned out to be surprisingly entertaining. Ashton Kutcher has never been a good actor ... he's just a good-looking dude who has parlayed his appearance and Hollywood's obsession with surface appeal into a career.

Nerds are in arms over Affleck for Batman but somehow I'm sure the controversy will help rather than hinder the movie.
Kutcher as Jobs is definitely up there in terms of bad casting. The material didn't help any but a good actor who could get in character would have made things better.

I saw the movie last night and I too wondering about the casting of Kutcher. I definitely think that he was not right for the role. It was interesting though, the opening scene of the movie when he unveils "the big revolution", I thought that he just nailed it. Also, the beginning of the movie where he is trying to establish Apple, I thought that he portrayed the character realistically and sold it. However, the rest of the movie, Steve Jobs leading the ship as Apple was getting established - I definitely saw Ashton Kutcher, there was no authenticity for the latter half of the movie. I didn't get the intensity, the maniacal attention to detail, the fanaticism that was Steve Jobs. Overall, yeah, I think that they'd have done better with someone one, maybe a "no-name".

I never liked Ashton, I think because of that, my view on the movie was very tainted from the start. I just couldn't help but hate it from the start.

reply

I agree @DyingRoses I never liked him and never really watched anything with him. I was a huge Two and a Half Men fan and as soon as he joined the cast I stopped watching, never watched a single clip.

He was a horrible choice to play a high profile character. This whole movie is full of bad casting.
