Worst casting of the year?

Ashton Kutcher as Steve Jobs

But I'll let you guys decide. What other 2013 movie made a bad casting decision of a main character?

reply

I actually couldn't disagree more.

I thought Kutcher was great. He looked the part (absolutely spot on), and his acting was good. Not great, no, but good.

I can see where people would say he overacted, and I agree, but to a fair extent that's how Steve Jobs was. He would go off on people, and go to an angry extreme, and then be calm again shortly after. At least from what I've read.

I'm sorry but what does Ashton Kutcher being a horrible actor have to do with Steve Jobs having a short temper? I really don't get the correlation there or why the personality of the person being depicted is relevant at all to someone having no acting ability. Your rationalization makes no sense.

Steve Jobs = arrogant, egotistical, punk

Ashton Kutcher = arrogant, egotistical, punk

and thats jail usage of punk, not rock usage

"What did you think of the play, Mr. Little Jeans?"

Armie Hammer in the Lone Ranger? Another stinker.

I was hoping Ashton Kutcher would pull off a Farrah Fawcett in the Burning Bed but he failed. The guy cannot act. He's a performing clown, which is fine. Just perform as a clown and don't try to do anything else. The world needs clowns.

Made me wonder who would have been a better contemporary Jobs. I'd have to think about it. There's several youngish guys who can act and with some prosthetics and/or makeup could have become Jobs.

Ashton had a real shot to prove his talent and instead he showed he has none. Oh well.

Even if it means me taking a chubby, I will suck it up!

Sometimes actors redeem themselves, like Shia LaBeauf did in Lawless.

Ashton Kutcher wields colossal power in Hollywood. Weeks after winning an Oscar, Natalie Portman was Ashton's whore in No Strings Attached. Even if this film bombs he'll continue to get choice roles. Some critics have actually been paid to give JObs a favorable review.

The difference between Shia and Ashton is that the former suffered to give. He played the weak youngest brother to two behemoth and violent older siblings. I don't believe that Ashton has it in him to display that sort of commitment.

Horrible movie. Laughably bad. Like Ashton "acting" and your taste.

Report indicates that Ashton Kutcher will be the new Dark Knight in Man of Steel 2.

reply

I really hope that's true.

reply

Definitely. He's such a joke.

anything with Leonardo in it.

It's strange, Ashton Kutcher has Al Pacino level power, But that's where the similarity ends.

Kutcher uses his power to further himself. Alfredo uses his power to cultivate talent. For example he decides who directs his projects, the suits do not refuse him. However, he is something of a Gordon Ramsay, if his chosen directors don't meet his standards he fires them.

Here's one director he didn't fire.

I have seen mention of Sharlto Copley and we know this guy can act. All due respect to Ashton, but he cannot get near Copley or indeed, worthy of consideration would have been Emile Hirsch (Speed Racer) who is a promising talent.

Damn, even Jake Gyllenhaal may have been more suited to the role!

Thoughts?
