Not enough Nicolas Cage
For his performance being so hyped he was barely in the movie
shareThanks for the heads up!
shareThat was deliberate. They wanted a cloak of mystery surrounding his character. They felt that the less people knew, the more people had to fill in the blanks themselves. the movie relies on the belief that what-you-don't-see is often scarier than what-you-actually-see
shareFilling in the blanks. That’s a lot to ask of an audience to make up stuff in their heads to fill in those blanks.
shareThey wanted it to be Kevin Spacey in Se7en, but it didn’t work. Cage was by far the best part of the movie and he should have had much more screen time
shareEverything he did was the opposite of scary. It was gimmicky. Best scene was in the hardware store.
Buffalo Bill was formidable in Silence of the Lambs. Spacey was scary and smart and had an agenda in Se7en. Nobody is smart in Longlegs.
The movie would have probably been better going a different direction for the villain. Nicolas Cage being a campy little weirdo was just silly and not intimidating or scary. Honestly they should have cast someone else.
shareCage as the creepy serial killer villain was probably the biggest draw of the movie. He’s an iconic actor with a long career, yet he had never done a role like this one. People were drawn by this unexpected role for him . He did really well imo
shareMaybe there'll be some deleted scenes with him on the blu ray.
