Oh no, people have different opinions! Let's call them haters, that'll show them. Grow up.
The story is cliché as F. It's one gigantic trope-fest. None of it is new. All of it has been done before. Some of the "plot" (and I feel dirty for calling this garbage that) makes zero sense (For example: what's with the really young kids being soldiers? They can barely lift a rifle.)
Even the worst episode of Star Trek Voyager is better than this, and Voyager was a galaxy size cluster-F.
And it's one huge waste of Moretz's skills and talent. Sadly not the first time she got stuck with a turd. In that movie with Washington her talents were literal pearls before swines. The girl is good, she deserves better roles than such trope-laden dribble.
Also, how is it "young adult" when the heroine is 15?
And don't make me start on the books. Apparently they have been praised to "do for aliens what Twilight did for vampires". That means, after this garbage is done, sci-fi will be in coma, if not brain dead.
When this trash is over we're going to be stuck with sci-fi fans who want a level of cliché and trope that makes George Lucas's writing look genius and Jar-Jar Binks will be hailed as a great character.
