This movies makes me hate White kids and their privilege...

The punk *** kids depicted in the movie are garbage. Their whole entire way of describing what they did to the old man , as a "project" rather than a damn crime, just highlights the delusional mindset and entitled privilege mentality that I hate about white people. How on earth, did they have any right at all to snoop into this mans home and concern themselves with what was going on in a strangers house?

They are sociopaths and I am supposed watch this movie and think they are revolutionary geniuses because they are petty criminals? If these losers were Black kids, every one of their actions would be considered deviant, nothing artistic or intelligent about it.

The worse part of it all is, a decent, law abiding, harmless, innocent human being was unknowingly put under a microscope. They dehumanized him , verbally describing him as a psycho , among other things. Wanting to pin crimes on him. All because he is an older guy living alone?!!! I guess when you're a ugly little white boy , with nothing else going for you other than you whiteness and your youth, then you cant see that maybe just maybe, you are probably the real PSYCHO. You weird, stalker degenerate a** hole.

The ringing bell was the form of communicating, between him and his wife, from her death bed and when he was woken to that sound, in a dark house alone again, no wife, no love or comfort. He was reminded once again that he had nothing. He killed himself , because of the sound of that bell...the reminder. No remorse for the role they played.

To add insult to injury? Sentence the sociopaths to probation. I understand the rule of law is limited right now.Theres little actual compassion or thinking that is apart of the justice system. But these "children" did something REALLY wrong.

When you start allowing your self to make excuses for why you do bad things to people, then you are taking away a part of what makes them human. All of the *beep* they did, under the pretense that this guy deserved it. They are the sickos. They are the psycho sociopathic freaks , but its okay because their only little white boys.

I don't know how somebody can watch the movie and think that's the intended takeaway message.

The audience in the end is supposed to be upset about what was done and to share the frustration of the judge that it wasn't possible to have a more appropriate sentence given the magnitude of the crime (though as noted in another post here, there's a script problem in that the kid bringing a gun into the home probably would have made the crime a felony).

It's a good thing this was just a movie. You act like these were real people.

I am white and I hated those kids. They deserved to die.

The film isn't at all supportive of their behaviour; I'm stunned that this is how you interpreted it.

It's clearly supposed to be very tragic what happened to Grainey; he's made very sympathetic, especially at the end.

On the other hand, the kids are portrayed badly. Ethan in particular is portrayed in a very negative, sadistic light and it's heavily implied that he's something of a sociopath.

Even going by the comments on this board you can see the general reaction to the kids getting off is one of anger and disgust. The gasp in the court room and reaction of the crowd is supposed to mimic the film's audience, whom the film makers will respond in like manner. The film, like Eden Lake, is designed to make you angry with society and our culture.

I don't see anyone- in the film or in real life- saying that they were right to get off free because they were white. Even in the film, the only people who praise them for being intelligent are the kids themselves; no adult is patting them on the back. In fact, the only time you see the kids with the adults is when they're getting told off for being irresponsible. It's clear that the kids often frustrate their parents.

I agree there'd be a lot of hate if the kids in this were black, and no doubt a lot of racist slurs. However, despite the kids being white you can clearly see a lot of people are really angry about the ending and that they got away, so your complaint is meaningless.

As a black person, I find it really irritating when people like yourself throw around the term 'racism' at any stupid thing or situation, when an ounce of critical thinking would make it clear that's not the case. All it does is annoy people and get them defensive so when real, actual racist crimes are committed against black people, society as a whole doesn't care because the term has been so watered down and used so often in a useless manner.

So is there a good excuse for non whites to commit crimes?

That's ok. The movie Menace to Society made me hate black kids. Or not. Maybe I can just be aware that there are different types of people regardless of race.

I would say my memory is not what it used to be. But I don't remember what my memory used to be.
