Disappointed with the new portrayal of Chucky as a human.

Granted, in the first Child's Play movie, we only see Chucky in human form for about 5 minutes, but during that time, he comes across as a ruthless street thug and a serial killer. He more or less keeps this persona as a doll in all 6 films, sometimes coming across as more sadistic, sometimes more mellowed out. But during the flashback scenes in this one where it shows him as a human, he comes across as a family obsessed, love stalker with mental issues rather than a criminal and a killer. It made him feel more like he needed mental help, like Norman Bates, rather than a vicious killer as he's been portrayed in all his doll incarnations and his human appearance in the first one. I don't know, I just had a real hard time identifying human Chucky with doll Chucky in this film, the two just seemed so different.

Dude. Anyone known as the Lakeshore strangler who practices voodoo for a pastime is bound to have some messed up psychological disorders! I respect your opinion though.

I agree. I didn't like how they had him like obsessed with Sarah and her kids and kidnapped her and that's what happened when the cops were after him in the first one. It just didn't work for me

reply

I agree. He didn't seem like the character who would crack jokes and stuff.

People change. And I'm sure dying multiple times would unhinge a person further, especially considering he acted that way 25 years ago before losing his life.

I love how people assume he wasn't an obsessive psychopath, and just some sort of serial killer with no other mental disorders or motives.

I don't get it, why does he have mental issues? Because he had a child and the woman left him to marry another? He didnt get over it? Its called heartbreak, might as well call 95% of americans mentally disordered, the only thing that, seperates him from others, is that he killed for revenge....

I respect your opinion but couldn't disagree more. I loved the backstory and thought it was a nice touch after knowing virtually nothing about Charles Lee Ray's pre-doll life for the first 5 films.
