Where should it continue on from?

Jigsaw or Spiral?

Or perhaps even Saw 3D with the return of Mark Hoffman, whose death has not been officially confirmed yet.

Perhaps this can lead to a crossover between the three killers down the line.

Saw 3d and Hoffman

It's a bit of weird one.

I gave up on these movies at number 3. I knew they had made more but had to laugh when I saw this and that they were up to number 10. I imagine the writers must start off thinking up inventive ways for victims to be in traps at this point, and then build a plot around it.

The rumor mill is filled with supposed 'leaks' that this film will be taking place either;
1. Before Saw.
2. Between Saw & Saw II.
3. Continuing on from Saw II, ignoring the rest of the sequels.

Most reports seem to be reporting the film will be a 'midquel'. Set after Saw and before Saw II.

Tobin Bell and Shawnee Smith are set to return.

If I had to pick one or the other, definitely Saw 7 or Jigsaw as I wasn't a huge fan of Spiral. But if it's true about it being a prequel to other films set between the earlier movies, that sounds cool too. I would love a movie more focused on Tobin Bell even if it takes place in the past.

I'm not sure how I'd feel if they wanted to rewrite the later sequels and pretend they didn't exist. I don't think they'd go this route. I personally enjoy the whole story of the Saw movies, and I think it's one of the few film series with a ton of movies where the story and details hold up decent throughout all the movies.

If they're going the 'midquel' route. They could keep the later sequels cannon.

I guess it depends how well the film does. If they go this route and the film is a box office hit they'll want to make more and it's then during the writing process where they may have to retcon the other sequels to keep the franchise alive. I imagine it'd be too hard to keep cramming films between the Saw and Saw II timeline.

reply

Yeah it will definitely be interesting to see what happens. The only thing I'm wondering though is even if this is a box office hit, if Tobin Bell would do more, since he is getting a lot older. Also:

***POSSIBLE SPOILERS***

He has been dead since movie 3 and 4, so they have made so many stories now that take place after his death, but him still contributing in some way. I think what they've done in most of the sequels is decent for storytelling while working around the fact they killed off Jigsaw so early. I get what your saying though, you can only do this for so long and instead of going through the trouble of that, maybe just branch off and retell a version of the movies where he lived.

I'm excited either way, I love seeing these movies at the theater and it's become a tradition!

After Saw VI actually when he gets rejected for insurance coverage. Would make sense for him to go to Mexico then for a cheaper doctor.

Saw X takes place between Saw and Saw II

Not that hard to figure out

Jigsaw and Spiral have crappy timeline contuinity anyway

Should have stopped at number two. The original was clever and shocking, especially at the end. I stopped watching after number three.
When the kid got twisted in that machine, that's when I said enough is enough.

reply

When he got twisted like a stretch armstrong was brutal, but that was Jeff's fault. Besides, he was a POS dui driver who killed someone, so fuck em!
