6.3 Rating?? That's actually ridiculous

I'm really disappointed so many people on here can't enjoy this.

And do reflect on the fact that 53% of IMDb viewers so far have given it a 7 or higher. Most of the people who saw it, liked it. That's not so bad.

Johnny Depp is getting worst in each movie he does and Meryl Streep is an ignorant feminazi. Bing! That's enough for a movie to suck and deserve 1.

What an intelligent, profound and insightful comment you have provided us with here at the IMDB boards. Thank you for sharing that wisdom of yours.

a person can't get "worst" the word you mean is "worse" dumbass. and Feminazi was old in the 90s and is incredibly ignorant.

I'm actually disappointed that more people don't hate on it. I think this movie is a mess, the worst movie musical I have ever watched and, in general, a terrible movie. I felt this movie was so bad that I opened an IMDB account so I could review it. I mean, I wanted to like it, but the only thing I feel right now is that I want my time and money back.

So a lot like the other people who made accounts just to give rambling, incoherent one-star reviews?

This movie definitely has a lot of positives, such as the excellent acting (esp. from Emily Blunt), beautiful settings and the songs are pretty good, but I still can totally understand why many didn't like it. The premise is weak (stealing from a garden prompts a curse?) and there's a serious lack of action.

While I was watching, I kept asking myself, why isn't anything actually happening? There's a lot of describing and talking while wandering around, something that probably worked really well in the musical, but doesn't quite make sense because, in a movie, visuals can replace explanations, but sadly didn't.

See people? This is how an opinion should be expressed. Not by throwing away 1 stars like confetti without thinking.
Kudos for your review Live_Dream. I did like the movie but I agree with you with the lack of action.

I believe the reason for the curse was explained... the witch's mother had told her never to let anyone take the beans because they were magic.

I've seen the original so many times, and I just finished watching this. I am completely amazed at how close they stuck to the actual play. People who give this movie a low rating are probably the idiots that actually think the movie adaptations of Les Mis and Phantom were good.

This movie is not over-hollywoodized. It's simple, and its funny, and a little ridiculous... just like the play. I wanted to walk right back in and watch it again.

10/10

I agree a 6.3 rating is ridiculous. I can't imagine how it could possibly get that high. There is essentially only one tune in the whole movie, and the words all boil down to "whine, moan, my life sucks". There is about 3 minutes worth of plot stretched into the first hour or so of the movie by having all the songs drag out "whine, moan" for 5 or 10 minutes. Intertwining several fairy tales has the potential to do something clever, but nothing clever was done with the idea (See "Ever After" for how to do clever things with fairy tales), and the grand conclusion was ripped from the pages of a ten cent Sunday supplement psychologist. Pointless doesn't even begin to describe it.

The cast alone is what drew me how could I resist!

I am not saying this didn't have anything going for it the sets and costumes were amazing. The orchestra was also excellent but the songs, if that's what you want to call them were just speaking to music. Basically they wrote a script and played beautiful music and told the actors to sing these lines. After about a hour I really couldn't take it anymore.

I understand people love this film and understand it wasn't for me and that's ok. Now start the orchestra and in a singing voice, I'm going in the kitchen! Gonna make a sandwich! Anything can happen! In the kitchen.
