It's not a reboot with new characters. It is a direct sequel to the 2021 film with at least 6 of the actors from that film returning as the same characters.

You don't get to redifine the definition of what a sequel is. A sequel simply recognizes the events of a prior film and moves forward based on that. There are countless examples. Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift, Predator 2, Pacific Rim Uprising, American Psycho 2, Friday the 13th 2, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Final Destination 2. None of these have the main characters from the previous film. Are you denying they are sequels?

my opinion says I get to define what a sequel and reboot is.

Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift is spinoff. Dom makes a cameo.
Predator 2 is reboot as none of the original characters are in it.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is a soft reboot with new characters.
American Psycho 2 is reboot as none of the original characters are in it.
Friday the 13th 2, this is a sequel.

Explain how its a reboot when the story follows on from Ghostbusters and the events of New York city in 1985? The original Characters also appear in the movie, Egon, Peter, Ray, Winston, Janine and Dana?

it should follow the events of the 1989 movie, but it doesnt. the 2021 movie is a reboot of the 1984 movie. the 2024 movie is a sequel/soft reboot of the 2021 movie. there is no mention of the events of the 1989 movie in any of the recent reboot movies.

Considering Harold Ramis died before the film was shot, I can forgive him for not "returning for a cameo." He did, in fact, appear in the film, in CGI-created form, which is more than most dead actors do when a sequel is filmed after they've died.

I don't think you understand what a reboot is. The upcoming film is a direct sequel to the 2021 film, which was, in turn, a direct sequel to Ghostbusters 2. And that was a sequel to the original.

Though it will likely have a more interesting title, you can think of this as Ghostbusters 4. It is neither a remake or a reboot.

The only reboot was the 2016 version.

ghostbusters afterlife WAS NOT a sequal GB 2016. it was a complete reboot that takes place after the second movie. GB 2016 is not cannon to the story and this movie is a sequal to the 2021 reboot.

The firehouse was in the last movie, and it clearly pointed to that being the direction it was going, so it's a sequel to Afterlife, which was a sequel to the 80s Ghostbusters movies. Same characters that acknowledge the events from the previous movies is a sequel. The only reboot was 2016, and it was awful.

there was also a firehouse in the 2016 sequel and they had the same proton packs and fought and trapped ghosts. its basically a sequel because the original cast was in it.

I guess it is doing well on Netflix. Who knows, I think it is yet another example of how they tried to woo a completely different target audience in order to start a hypothetical giant franchise and ended up barely making any money. They sold the movies off of the original characters and now there are two generic movies instead of a good third film to finish off the originals storylines and give the fans what they wanted.
