Does this really deserve merely an 5,6?

Yes, it's corny, has its cliches and Josh Gad is annoying, but it's not like there are no redeeming qualities.
Visual effects are great, Peter Dinklage was great in the role and Chris Columbus really adds a certain charm to the movie
Should be 6,3 - 6,6 IMO.

You ppl only like it because of rose tinted nostalgia glasses, the movie is *beep*
I was a gamer in the 80's, and still am one now, so it is not as if I don't get the references.

I agree.

I don't like Adam Sandler - he's like fingernails on a chalkboard - so I really expected to not like this movie. But Sandler dials it down in this movie and comes across with a drier sense of humour. I actually enjoyed his performance. It's nice to see a comedian expanding his acting range without stepping out of comedy.

The special effects are great, lots of fast paced action, and (as already pointed out here) the movie never takes itself seriously.

It's movie junk food, but who doesn't crave a little junk food now and again?

This movie probably rates a 6/10 but I bumped my rating up to a 7/10 because it got me to laugh when I fully expected I wouldn't even crack a smile.

reply

6/10 which is probably the highest I'd ever rate an Adam Sandler movie.

I gave it a 6 but it would be a high 6. Really enjoyed seeing some of the old games from my youth brought back some great memories

To make a great film you need three things - the script, the script and the script -Alfred Hitchcock

The first half was quite entertaining for me, had quite some laughter... 6,5.
But unfortunately I found the second half awful, embarrassing... it was like a silly version of Independence Day... 5 and later it dropped to 4.
I'd give it a 5,8 in total for the sake of the first half.

I admired how everything hit got turned into pixel boxes.

The graphics were amazing but it was just unbearable to watch. The script was godawful. So as the other poster has stated, this film gets a 4 instead of a 1.

I think that score is well deserved. Because it's a junk food and a mere eyes candy. And the nostalgia factor too.

Script wise, it's not good at all. It seems that it was used before someone properly proofread it. I found a lot of goof and annoying things even before I read the goofs section.

- I can ignore the fact that real life Donkey Kong and Pacman don't have cheat codes, because this is a fiction. But. Why would arcade games has cheat codes? The one's running the business will go bankrupt! Cheat codes is only for console games.

- How did Fire Blaster cheat while all cameras are on him? Won't someone notice the abnormal increase in score or something?

And there are many more, which won't fit here.

I felt quite disappointed with "Wreck it Ralph", the movie wasn't all bad, the problem was that the trailers promised a mix between arcade games' stars, but landed on three games with just cameos.

On the other hand, Pixels. The acting and plot were ok, but references, some jokes and effects made the deal, this is just for entertainment and haters seek on this kind of films Oscar's nominees. I went to this with medium-to-low expectations and was happily surprised.
