Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within

I'm not saying it is a copy, re-make or something like that, but the visuals are very much like FF: The Spirits Within, and the storyline is ... 😓 almost the same. Yes, I got all that from the trailer - so I'm most likely wrong, but still, can't shake that feeling. (It don't have to be a bad thing either!) Does anyone else see/feels the same? Still, when it comes to sci-fi I'm going to see it just because it's sci-fi! 😊

No.

I just watched the movie, it is: a) a lot better than FF TSW and b) not really that much like it at all, other than you sort of die on contact (which you see in the first 10 seconds, so it is not a spoiler).

I am terrible for wikipedia-ing movies, but I did not for this one and I am glad. It is also mildly scary in places.

EXACTLY what I thought of while watching it, just a live version of it.

Made me laugh at a review that this was "original".....ummmm, no

Final Fantasy spirits within and Aliens *beep* and 9 months later this movie came out

This was my exact same reaction after watching like 20 minutes of this.

Even the tech they employ to fight the enemies is VERY similar to FF: The Spirits Within.

I kept waiting for Alec Baldwin and James Woods to show up and maybe bring Donald Sutherland along in tow.

It should have been.
Some kind of alien ethereal lifeform would have been way more interesting than what they went with plus there wouldn't be the massive vulnerability of needing those people in the tanks.

Yes, the main character of Spectral was basically the male version of Aki from FF:TSW, the scientist between soldiers.

Because he was communicating with them in his dreams because he had one of them trapped in stasis inside of his body? ... I missed that part. And how did his past relationship factor in? And ... who was his dead mentor again?

FINAL FANTASY: 3/10
SPECTRAL: 1/10

You comment is what I was looking for because after seeing this movie I was sure I'd find others who thought this was just like FF:The Spirits Within. The major plot that they share is that the soldiers are brought in to fight one war and discover that they are fighting spirits. I liked it and believe that it would make an excellent TV show.

Ditto,
Lots of similarities w/ FF Spirits Within, but I'm cool with it not only was it neat to see a live action version but this also actually created a more scientific origin for the spectres.

Not saying that it's likely or even that they didn't just add a bunch of movie magic but I did like they classified how and why they were made. Overall I thought it was a decent and fun movie, good investment for Netflix.

Also agree would have been a cool basis for a TV show or Comic

- Currently watch classic Cinema like Gods of Egypt

Glad to see I wasn't the only one that saw the similarities. It could have almost been like a prequel to "FF:TSW" in many ways. A really good flick, another winner from Netflix.

The trailer looks EXACTLY like a live action remake of FF:TSW. The way the "ghosts" or whatever they are kill is the same. The visors, the city in ruins... I´m glad I´m not the only one who noticed this.
