Why do people keep harping on her size???

Okay, so Melissa is a bit heavy-set. Who cares? That still doesn't eliminate the fact that she's funny, likeable, and becoming quite successful in the movie industry. It's really a shame how quickly she's condemned because of her weight, and yet, other stars who've done considerably worse damage to their own health are continuously revered. Look at Keifer Sutherland and Zac Efron, two megastars who were both treated for problems with alcoholism. Look at Samuel L. Jackson, who acknowledged that years prior to his box-office successes, he was addicted to crack and living on the streets. At that's only a few. Case in point...NONE of us can afford to throw stones or put on pious airs. I'm sure Melissa McCarthy looks at herself everyday in the mirror. So what's the point in hating on her if it's entirely HER business what she eats?

Who cares? SHE obviously does. She WROTE this movie, and can't get past her own looks to tell a story.

I'm sure this has been said already, but her whole schtick is that she's fat and obnoxious. So that's why people "harp on her size."

Theres a difference between being overweight , and unhealthy overweight. I dont hate her , but its wrong to say being that very fat is ok. It works both ways with pple saying models are to skinny.

And comparing John candy as being type casted is way wrong. His best movies he plays way diff parts.

Great Outdoors- family man

Uncle Buck- kinda a slzeey loser that redeems himself , even somewhat a ladies man.

Candian Bacon- A cop, sorta redneck-ish.

He never relied on his size to carry his parts , he coulda been skinny and almost all his rolls woulda been the same.

Melissa play almost the same part in any movie shes been in.

I saw her the other day on TV, and she has gotten FATTER to the point where her face doesn't look familiar. I wouldn't have guessed that it was her except that it was a story about her.

That is serious eating where she's eating thousands and thousands of extra calories to not only maintain her fat, but increase it. That's dangerous and CRAZY binge eating.

She's funny, but watching someone kill themselves is not. I'm sure like many fat comedians, who have died, etc she was molested, abused, or whatever and this is her mode of public suicide.

She needs to get a handle on it and stick around.

they harp on her size because she's fat......fat people are not good to look at, and are a drain on our healthcare system. thats why.

While you are entitled to your opinion, but can you please tell me how fat drains the healthcare system? You want to know what is really sad? I mean something I have questioned for years? As retired military, I pay 468/yr for health insurance, and have a civilian doctor. Yet there are those paying that much a month. I have a 12.00 per visit co-pay and pay 6.00 for medication. And BTW, the only medication I took was treatment for valley fever, which I didn't have.

Other comedy heaveyweights- John Candy, and Chris Farley both very funny, both gone before their time. Just saying, some people might be just as worried about Melissa McCarthy. Personally, I think she's hilarious (though I've never seen Mike and Molly, just her movies.)

I have no idea who this lady is. I just clicked on this because it was on the front page.

So apparently this woman is fat, foul-mouthed, dresses horribly, is a bad-ass, and plays the same character all the time.

Sounds EXACTLY like Roseanne. Remember Roseanne Barr/Arnold? She was #1 on TV for quite a while. Made a ton of money.

Maybe this new woman is trying to repeat Roseanne's success. Since no one else is doing it, why not??

Because haters have to say something and because movies like these and all the fat jokes only make it easy for them to do so. If she was black, there would only be a handful of racist scums calling her name for it. But she's overweight so it's socially acceptable.

Also, double standards. she's a woman in lead parts so she should be "hot" (I never found Renee Zellwegger hot but you get my meaning) and glamorous. Men can afford to be slobs, even total douches, drug addicts and cheaters, they'll still have women pining away for them and guys wishing they were them. Women have to be what Hollywood usually serves us.

So what's the point in hating on her if it's entirely HER business what she eats?

Neither here nor there but obesity is not necessarily caused by overeating. There are a number of factors at play, among which overeating but not only. And you're right, who cares?

Well said, Ithilfaen. I particularly liked your assessment regarding women in lead parts having to always be "hot". I can count on one hand the number of lead female characters who don't resemble computer-crafted Barbizon models (even the older ones who've been nipped and tucked), and Melissa McCarthy defies this "constructed" image on all levels. That's why we like her. Not to mention, in spite of all complaints, she's going all the way to the bank with her success.

What your forgetting is theirs nothing wrong with being black , but there is with being her size , its unhealthy. I dont think anyone has ever called Meryl Streep hot , in fact shes ugly , but shes a good actress.

Melissa basically plays a fat pig/idiot in all her movies, its off putting roles to some pple. Again its not her look that i dont like ,its the roles she plays. No joke she could be replaced with a talking pig in all of her movies and the movie would be about the same.

I dont like her tv show , but not bc of her. In mike and molly she plays a more normal person that happens to be fat , in her movies she play a fat person , theres a diff.
