Disgusting
Nothing more than torture porn with a lousy soundtrack. I love horror movies, slashers, thrillers, etc. This was absolute garbage. Avoid at all costs. Not even worth a download.

The lowest possible grade a movie can get.
The style of this movie is so obviously an homage to 80's psycho thrillers/horrors/slashers with the music and the nudity, which i found quite charming.
I wouldn't say that this was a great movie. It was good tho. And this movie was actually the second horror in 25 years that made me cringe (the other one was "New York Ripper" by Lucio Fulci.) And i've watched A LOT of horrors. The fx in this movie is reason enough to watch it.
A horror movie called Maniac is disgusting and disturbing?! Wow..what a shocker. This movie was hardly torture porn, it did what very few horror movies have done and went into the mind of a mad man, showing us everything as he perceived it to be. One of the most disturbing movies I have ever seen and Elijah Wood put on one hell of a performance.
Because sponges never have bad days.
I find all nudity "charming." 😉
shareI thought the soundtrack was great. Seriously.
share"Torture porn with a lousy soundtrack"? That's a crazy opinion to me. What I saw was a modern psychological slasher that's visceral, disturbing, and pretty ballsy for the genre . . . a rarity, IMO. It's not without a few faults, and it definitely won't be everyone's cup of tea (my 20-year-old niece was so horrified that she was peaking through her fingers), but there's a lot to like about this film. And it puts the over-hyped Evil Dead remake to shame.
shareFrom the scenes of violence that I've seen (opening murder, parking lot murder, strangulation scene) I wouldn't say it's torture porn at all. I've seen movies that are and like the OP, I dismiss them. I consider those movies to be trash. I don't even want to mention them by name and one of them, to this day, I regret not walking out. Good thing I had free admission that day. I didn't think the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake or the Friday the 13th remake were torture porn, but definitely unnecessarily over the top and inferior to the originals. The same goes for Rob Zombies Halloween movies. They sucked. Especially his version of Halloween II. Worthless trash. I don't mind graphic violence if it's necessary. Obviously with Maniac they were going for realism and wanted to get you inside the head of a homicidal maniac. But I hate when filmakers only want to go for shocks and have no real reason for graphic violence.

Not even close to being torture porn, a very good film with a great 80s sounding soundtrack, similar to what John Carpenter wrote for his earlier films.
