If I hated Tree of Life will I hate this?

I like and can appreciate a pretty broad range of films but I really detested Tree of Life. Maybe I needed to watch it more than once but I barely could get through it the first time.

reply

Yes.

reply

You already hate it.

reply

I don't want to...but cautious. I will watch this but I may wait for home release. Love the cast and the idea of the story, but...

reply

I think you probably either love Malick or hate Malick after The Thin Red Line. Up to then he's almost mainstream.

reply

Its his worst yet, actually. He's ruining his legacy - he's gotta stop churning out these god-awful films. Thing is though, he can get big names to agree to be in them - so then the funding comes easy.

reply

Just watched it. I love Tree of Life but I can certainly say that this one makes that film seem cohesive and structured. I'd have to guess that you'd hate this too. But hey, surprises are good, so give it a chance sometime!

reply

Eeeesh! Thought KOC would be better but I guess its To the wonder 2. Smh

reply

I'd say it's much more cohesive/structured than To The Wonder, for what it's worth.

reply

yes.
and you were right to hate tree of life because it blew.

reply

Yes. I personally loved both though.

reply

it was hard for me to see The Tree of Life and all Malick films starting with The Thin Red Line. but this film is such an accomplishment (of Malick intentions to find a visual concept of wWorld, of philosophical bBeing), it has a place of his own in cinema history.

reply

you CANNOT compare Tree of Life to Thin Red Line. Thin Red Line is a masterpiece, it's basically an existential war movie wherein nothing external happens. it's fantastic in every respect. I walked out of Tree of Life after about 20 minutes, and I never do that.

reply

He cannot compare one movie with another you've only seen 20 mins of? How do you know that?

Have sympathy for smith. His mayor hates him.

reply

You can compare what you saw... if the acting is bad, if the narrative is obvious and predictable then yeah you kinda can.

I haven't seen all of A History of Violence, but I know the script was awful, the kid in it was god awful, and Cronenburg's directing of the whole lots was awful. Would seeing the other 75% of the film convince me I was wrong and all the peopel that gave it an 9/10 were actually spot on?

No.

reply

Without question.

Absolutely if a viewer did not like Tree of Life, they will NOT like Knight of Cups. Whereas that film at least gave some semblance to character, dialogue, and interactions, this film does not even give you that much to digest.

Knight of Cups is wholly dependent on images, sound, and voice-over to complete the film.
