Worst movie of 2013 -- Grown Ups 2 or Upstream Color?

I very seriously think it is one of the two, but cannot decide on which left me feeling more abused as a viewer by the time I had finished watching. They could both be aptly described as "a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." But which tale signified more nothingness and which storyteller was the bigger idiot? Any thoughts on which was the worst movie of 2013 would be appreciated and any alternates will be considered.

I think Grown Ups 2 was worse, but then again I am just a single person with a subjective opinion. If I were to assert my opinion believing it to be the same thing as an objective truth, then that would just be silly. Right?

I didn't like UC either, but you're being VERY hyperbolic here by calling it one of the worst of 2013.

Actually, I am being very honest here in stating it was my worst movie of 2013 (after Grown Ups 2 -- which, if I'm being honest -- was worse). What makes stating it was one of the worst of the year hyperbolic? Or VERY hyperbolic? I don't tend to go to movies that look like crap so I don't have a bunch of junk movies to compare it to. I'm sure there are a LOT of "Grown Ups 2" that are probably worse, but I didn't go to them as I tend to avoid bad movies unless I'm in a group of friends who decide to drag me to garbage like Grown Ups 2. With that explained, can you understand how this could very easily be one of the worst movies of the year for me?

Hey sorry I'm a little late with this response. Got a little caught up with stuff IRL for the past day or so.

While I can totally understand UC being the biggest personal disappointment of 2013 for you, I do think you need to contextualize the film itself a little better. There's so much garbage being puked out for channels like SyFy that can't even achieve competent editing, even passable acting etc. that you don't even need to waste your time seeing yourself to know they're trainwrecks.

In comparison, I think it would be hard to similarly criticize Upstream Color on any technical level. There are no obvious flaws (That I noticed at least) in the editing, camera work, audio etc. that some have accused the director's previous film Primer of having.

If the movie is at least technically competent, then that automatically prevents it from being one of the absolute worst films of 2013 in my eyes. But it's been a while since I've seen it now too, so perhaps there are errors I am unaware of.

Did you see "The Host" ? If you enjoy bad movies with a mind-control premise, this is an absolute must-see. "Elysium" is also a bad SF film with a few nice visuals in a few scenes (Sharlto Copley's face reconstruction - worth price of admission). Some SF fans think "Europa Report" was the worst SF of 2013, I thought it was OK.

Europa Report was toward the bottom for me, as well. I couldn't stand it. I liked Elysium. I recognized its shortcomings, but it also got a lot right. Probably a 6 out of 10, possibly a 7. I don't watch Stephenie Meyer movies or movies based on books by Stephenie Meyer.

the fact that you are comparing the two is a compliment for this movie... considering its an independent film shot on a $400 camera compared to an adam sandler million dollar movie
