So For Those of you that have seen the movie
What would you give it on a scale of 1-10 and why?
Was it better than the first movie? Or about the same?
For me, the original's a 9/10 and this is a 4/10. I actually rated it a 5/10 at first and thought maybe I was been a bit harsh - I expected too much maybe, so I went to see it again and it was even worse the second time.
Too many characters, too many plotlines, just a cluttered mess with no heart. To be honest, it looks more like a cheap Netflix special and Beetlejuice himself is too toned down, and I didn't like the make-up on him either. Apparently the original make-up artist wasn't even asked back. They should have been. His hair and face looked much better before. Michael Keaton did his best but he's just too old for the role now.
I can watch the original once a month easily. I never want to see this again.
Just got back from the cinema after watching this and absolutely agree it's a 4/10 for the exact same reasons you mentioned. It was very much the same pitfall that Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire fell into; too many plotlines, too many characters and just lacking in the heart and humour of a far superior previous film.
The comedy is the biggest letdown though, I barely laughed throughout the film. I'd love to have walked out with a belly full of laughter and a huge grin on my face but it was a massive letdown and I'm surprised this has been mostly well received by critics, it really did just feel like an uninspired member berries cash-grab.
So beetlejuice 2 doesn’t have the same charm as the first? I find the original to be magical in a way as it gets so many things right and is such a unique movie.
I was afraid the humor wouldn’t land in the seqyrl because well we are now middle aged people and our humor has shifted quite a bit
