Keaton is kind of the only good thing about the movie
He is having fun in a role he is made for. horrible script.
shareHe is having fun in a role he is made for. horrible script.
shareHe was good for a 72 year old but really if they were going to do a sequel they should've done it when he was in his 50's at least. The energy just wasn't there anymore.
In the original, he was an unpredictable, quick-witted horny bastard, here he was like your slow dirty old granddad.
I did notice that from the trailers. He got the funny goofball parts back but when you watch the original, BeetleJuice had a real edge to him. There was a violence that would blaze out for a second and then go away at the drop of a hat almost like he was always a minute away from a fistfight. "I dont know Barbara we did call him and he did seem Really pissed off!"
shareOriginally Beetlejuice was supposed to be a serious Horror film where he tried to kill the Deetz's (and I think rape Lydia). Obviously they made it a comedy instead but Keaton played it in a way where you could imagine he might possibly still do those things even though you laughed at him. It was a fine balance but he pulled it off. He was definetly different here. And in the movie's reality, he shouldn't be. I mean, if he's been dead for centuries and he's the way he is in the original, then there's no reason for him to change within just 36 years.
Again, good performance for his age but it was a bit off.
Agree. It’s so disappointing they waited 30 years. I felt the same way with the first actual sequel to Dumb & Dumber

In the adds, even with makeup on, he looks old and tired. They should have de-aged him for the role.
shareHe looked bored to me.
shareHe apparently wasn't because there's behind the scenes footage of Keaton in full makeup speaking to the crew in his real voice saying, "I haven't had this much fun making a movie since... 'Beetlejuice'!"
shareThat could just mean every movie since BJ was excruciatingly boring to make.
Or his comment was just for the benefit of the BHS footage and he was lying.
Hmmm, there's behind the scenes footage of Mel Gibson on Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome saying how much he's enjoying doing it and how he thinks it's the best Mad Max film.
Turns out years later he was drinking a lot during filming and thought the film was a piece of shit and he thinks The Road Warrior is the best. Michael Keaton might mean it but what people in showbiz say about a product during making it and while they're promoting it, doesn't mean anything. It's part of their job to get the public to open their wallets.
He was great and deserved a little more screentime. Everyone else was lackluster.
sharePeople that didn't like this movie, all I hear from you is "I hate fun."
shareAll I hear is you need to get your hearing checked.
sharePeople that liked the movie, all I hear is "I'm easily pleased".
See how that works?
The first Beetlejuice was fun as well as being a laugh out loud comedy. About 20 minutes into this sequel I saw it for the lazy, uninspired cash-grab that it was and wished I was watching the first film again instead.
