Prediction: This will be better than the original.

But the nostalgia heads will whine and deem this movie unworthy because of 'reasons' that amount to nothing more than the nostalgic pinings of old fogies who miss the 80s. I'm sure there will be complaints from bitter old men about it being 'woke'.

New movie bad, old movie good.

My prediction: it will be okay at best.

It relies on those old fogies and their nostalgia to make it's money. So, it kind of deserves to be commented in by the audience it's milking its $$ from.

It will not be better than 16 year old Winona Ryder gothing it up.

reply

It's yet to be determined if it'll be good but I'm sure it'll make money as there's no big movies to speak of since the Summer Movie season is officially over.

Well Burton's track record makes that unlikely. While I'm kind of worried it's going to be a "Dumb and Dumber To"-tier sequel, I think everyone wants this to be good or at least a fun and pleasant watch.

reply

Dumb and Dumber To was worth a first watch for me, but it was nowhere near the original and not worth watching again.

I sure hope Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is good enough to become something more of an annual (Halloween?) watch.

reply

I saw it today. It's not as good as the original, but it is entertaining and fun.

It works both ways. You also get fans of an old film who are so desperate for a sequel to be good that they'll just accept anything. Saw this a lot with the last two Indiana Jones films. "I can't stand these so-called Indy fans criticizing. We should just be grateful to have him back".

I'm already seeing it on some sites about this film. Some people saying they enjoyed it but it was hugely flawed, the main things that seems to be coming up are too many plots and some pointless characters, and some fans of the original are getting upset and telling them to stop nit-picking, its just great to finally have a sequel.

Shut up, punk.

THe original was 36 years ago, so most who saw it then are about 50 now. I'd rather watch this than the vast majority of recent movies.
