Mexicans hate it!

If you check Imdb, a large percentage of 1* votes drag the average rating down. Both the US and Mexico have 3K 1* votes, but it's 75% of total from Mexicans! They rate it 3.0.

Why Mexicans find 'Emilia Perez' disrespectful - https://www.dw.com/en/emilia-perez-backlash-mexico/a-71433292

Despite the acclaim, the film has sparked harsh criticism in Mexico.

Even though the plot is set in Mexico, Audiard produced his drama in a studio near Paris. And with the exception of Adriana Paz, the cast features non-Mexican actors: Spanish trans woman Karla Sofia Gascon in the title role, and US actresses Zoe Saldana and Selena Gomez in other leading parts.

Mexican writer Jorge Volpi described it as "one of the crudest and most misleading films of the 21st century" in an op-ed for Spanish newspaper El Pais. To assume that "through a gender transition, the wild and cruel male who has ordered hundreds of murders suddenly transforms into an empathetic woman committed to the weakest is an unforgivable narrative juggling act," the author added, concluding that even if the film wins awards, it only expresses contempt for the victims.

The Japanese didn't like Oppenheimer either because it didn't show the bombs drop on Hiroshima and Nagasaki and didn't show any of the actual horrible suffering and death that occurred from the bombs. In fact, I kind of agree, Oppenheimer was Hollywoodized garbage , glossing over the events. But Americans don't care what Japanese, or any internatonal critics think. They only follow their own Hollywood industry. That's why they host their own award shows (The Oscars) to give themselves awards. For their own films.

Why does it matter what nationality the actors had? Oh right, it doesn't. Mexicans should fix their cartel problems instead of wasting time criticizing this harmless movie.
