Is there a better all round villain than Hiddleston's Loki?

A serious question for debate, i know people will bring up some fantastic villains for discussion.

But i just find him a wonderful combination of sinister, funny, demented, powerful and dare i say it likeable.

Hiddleston is the driving force to that character, he delivers his lines with a sense of intellectual superiority and playfulness that makes him the essence of that part IMO. If the critics cant see another man other than Hemsworth in the Thor role the same has got to be said about Hiddleston as Loki.

Thoughts?

I take it you've never seen Leon: The Professional? Norman Stansfield pretty much makes Tom Hiddlestons Loki seem like hes auditioning for a high school play.

There are ALOT of villans more worthy of the title. I doubt Loki would even make the top 20.

Natalie Portman (who was in both movies) is on record saying Thor (and thus Loki) is the better film.

reply

Yes because what Natalie Portmans thinks is soooooo important. I was on the edge of my seat anxiously awaiting for her opinion on the matter.

I can't think of a better performance in recent years however I also think that Hiddleston plays Loki almost too likably for a villain. You should hate him not like him lol

You're a troll.

I don't know that Hiddlestone's Loki is the best all round villain in film...but he's pretty much perfect for the Marvel films and he's certainly better than a lot of on-screen villains. He doesn't scare me in the same way that, say, Anton Chigurh (as mentioned above) does, but then, No Country for Old Men is an Oscar winner AND it's a 15, whereas the Marvel films are hardly aiming to win best picture and they're more family friendly. So I wouldn't expect such a chilling villain from them! The key advantage of Loki as a villain is that he's eminently watchable and you never resent a second of screen time that's dedicated to him. The disadvantage is that in some ways he outshines the good guys...I'd probably rather watch him than Thor, to be honest, even with Hemsworth taking his shirt off every now and then!

Yellowjacket was good but Loki was better.

reply

Loki is the far better bad guy when comparing him to Cross and Yellowjacket. The cool thing is that Hank Pym now has the Yellowjacket design and can use it for good.

reply

Loki is still king of the hill at least until November and Dr. Strange.

Loki, especially in Thor 2, isn't even a villain at this point, he's more of an anti-hero. The only other villain/anti-hero that's better then Loki is probably Magneto.

I hope Marvel actually does Thanos justice because Thanos in the comics is truly one of if not the best villain in the comics.

reply

That's the point. Like most things Marvel, the shades of gray are superb.
