A thoroughly entertaining sequel that delivers on all fronts!

I loved the first Thor film.

He is a very difficult superhero to bring to the screen and his comics were never all that great as he didn't receive the same kind of quality treatment as other more popular Marvel characters.

Luckily, Branagh & Whedon are both great Directors and the casting was superb - not just the main characters of Thor & Loki but also Odin, Frigga, Selving, Hemdall, Sif etc. Even Portman wasn't bad as Jane Foster :)

These strengths made for an exceptional first film but I honestly had no idea how they would follow it or how they could progress Thor's individual story (outside of Avengers).

Taylor has somehow carried these strengths (along with the same look & feel) into the sequel but also managed to expand Thor's universe, further developing the main characters - all this while keeping things light hearted and entertaining. A very ambitious & commendable achievement!

Also, from the 'after credits' scenes and the ominous "THOR WILL RETURN" it appears Marvel has much more already in the pipeline (they're clearly planning several years ahead with these films). We can expect to see Thor in action on an even larger (cosmic) stage - one that comic book fans in particular will appreciate (Infinity Gems anyone?!)

In the same way that T2 was a great sequel to Terminator (or Aliens was to Alien) this film is definitely a worthy successor.

This is easily the best CBH film of the year.
Go see it - it's awesome! :D

I wonder if Thor Ragnorok can be this good or even better?

Stiff competition is usually a good thing.

It's so refreshing to see everyone on board and looking back at how well this film turned out.

It'll be interesting to see where BvS ends up on the RT scale and that's with the benefit of all the death threats DC fans resort to when they try and intimidate and bully the critics who don't see it their way. Dark World is the MCU's lowest rated film and still fresh.

I accept your surrender.

Now that I've seen it several times, I think Thor was the better movie of the two.

TDW showed us more of Asgard, painted Odin in a mixed light and spent a lot of time developing the relationship between the brothers. That was the good stuff... However, Malekith was distinctly underwhelming, the "Aether" was underused and the "Conjunction" was just an excuse for another reality-threatening cosmic threat which unfortunately lacked the impact it needed to be convincing.

BvS is more ambitious, better written and a lot "deeper", so I expect it to be considerably better and may revise my ratings accordingly if necessary.

However, Marvel have never taken themselves too seriously and I like that they've opted for a more light hearted tone in the films, which I can enjoy for what they are without pontificating on some controversial social issue.

This comment might seem ironic given that Civil War is on the horizon but I think it will make sense when we can compare that with BvS.

Yes, Thor is the better all-around movie but the action of Dark World does beat it.

Both films outclass BvS by a very large margin. Civil War is on another level altogether.

Tom Hiddleston is pure awesome.

A very small degree of hope is sufficient to cause the birth of love.
