A thoroughly entertaining sequel that delivers on all fronts!

I loved the first Thor film.

He is a very difficult superhero to bring to the screen and his comics were never all that great as he didn't receive the same kind of quality treatment as other more popular Marvel characters.

Luckily, Branagh & Whedon are both great Directors and the casting was superb - not just the main characters of Thor & Loki but also Odin, Frigga, Selving, Hemdall, Sif etc. Even Portman wasn't bad as Jane Foster :)

These strengths made for an exceptional first film but I honestly had no idea how they would follow it or how they could progress Thor's individual story (outside of Avengers).

Taylor has somehow carried these strengths (along with the same look & feel) into the sequel but also managed to expand Thor's universe, further developing the main characters - all this while keeping things light hearted and entertaining. A very ambitious & commendable achievement!

Also, from the 'after credits' scenes and the ominous "THOR WILL RETURN" it appears Marvel has much more already in the pipeline (they're clearly planning several years ahead with these films). We can expect to see Thor in action on an even larger (cosmic) stage - one that comic book fans in particular will appreciate (Infinity Gems anyone?!)

In the same way that T2 was a great sequel to Terminator (or Aliens was to Alien) this film is definitely a worthy successor.

This is easily the best CBH film of the year.
Go see it - it's awesome! :D

It's so great to read a sane review from someone with a Batman avatar for a change! Well stated.

This really is easily the best CBM film of the year.

A thoroughly entertaining sequel that delivers on all fronts!

are you a paid conspiracy theorist?

Ignore the haters. Personally, I like large titles on IMDB that tell it like it is.

This is indeed an amazing film. It delivered everything I wanted and quite a bit I didn't expect.

Major Spoilers...

I knew Loki was pulling a trick when Thor lost his hand. MANY people that I saw it with did not. I did not expect to see Loki on the throne at the end. That stunned me.

reply

I do have to agree. This installment was great.

It’s good to dream

A great attitude does much more than turn on the lights in our worlds; it seems to magically connect us to all sorts of serendipitous opportunities that were somehow absent before the change. Thor The Dark World delivers on this notion.

reply

Why should we expect anything less from the god of thunder?

reply

Again, those with limited intellect may not like this effort. It's clear just by reading the hater posts on this page alone. The smarter you are, the more you will enjoy this film.

Many parents can't save for both retirement and their children's education at the same time.

reply

Holy smokes! Now that's a convincing argument *LOL*. Any more commenting would give your statement unwarranted support.

reply

Why not just admit that you liked it even though it hurts you as a Marvel hater?

Why not just admit that you liked it even though it hurts you as a Marvel hater?

A true Marvel hater ignores logic and fills their empty lives with hate. It's how they get through the day.

Can Russia afford to annex Crimea? Is this the start of WWIII?

reply

I loved it, may consider me Thor bias but I was not bored at all during the film. I rank it as the top for solo Marvel Studio movies. I think Cap 2 will top it though but still a movie I am impressed with.

reply

I also enjoyed the film a ton. May not be that suited for kids, with all the deaths and violence, but definitely a worthy sequel.

reply

I love my Marvel but I can also be honest. This movie is superb without bias.

Trash films like X3 and Elektra need bias to enjoy. Things this good, just sit back and enjoy.

reply

If everyone was actually honest, no one would vote this film less than a 7/10 at worst. There is so much to be entertained by that only those wishing to hate on the film would not enjoy it and that includes the professional critics.

reply

Now that its main theatre run is over, I can say that the movie held up well all the way through and deserves all the love you read here.

reply

It's playing at the $1 show near me. I never understood why the studios let that happen. Why let people see it for $1 when in a few weeks you get more money from rentals?

reply

[deleted]

I know it's pointless, but let me ask you this - how much did you get paid to BASH this film?

reply

Let the bashers stay active. What do real fans care?

Remember, a champion is someone who gets up when he can't.

reply

They knew he had no shot at getting it off.

reply

The bashers are all WB fans, no pay just brain fizzles.

reply

It's not better than Cap 2 but it didn't have to be in order to be great.

reply

That way not be the case after all.

reply

I can't wait to own this one.

Those should have stayed in the film for sure.

reply

At least it wasn't a cut-fest like Incredible Hulk. Those cuts hurt the film and ended up killing Ed Norton's career. He bulked so much that he cemented a bad rep.

TDW lacks the charm and light on it's feet adventurous vibe of the first. I'm literally BAFFLED by the low rating for this and the overall highly positive reception of the sequel. TDW has no real personality of it's own. It's a meandering film without much to engage aside some decent acting and a good action scene or two. Thor feels oddly stuffed to the background of his own film and he barely gets to do anything cool. On an objective level the CGI of TDW is superior but the world of Asgard in the first is so much more vibrant and colorful. Who gives a flying f--k about a fantasy realm in the clouds looking "lived-in?" Really? I'll take the gleaming, shimmering vibrancy of the first film over the muted, darker GOT copycat setting any day. Better action? There is no sense of choreography to most of the action in TDW-no flow. It's mostly just Thor showing up to bash one or two badguys in the face and that's it. The only worthy action bit was the raid on Asgard, and that lame because nobody of importance was really involved in it until Frigga got knifed. It's just CGI ships flying around.

I hear people praising the final fight as awesome and creative. Huh? In concept it sounds awesome but they utterly FAIL to capitalize on it. Thor and Malekith just tumble through a few generic landscapes (in extreme wide shots by the way) before Thor trudges through a giant red cloud of magic to deliver a final blow that you barely see. Nothing in TDW comes close to the Jotenheim fight in the first. Hell, or even the stripped down emotional brawl at the end between Thor and Loki.

They really should have stayed in the film. True.

"Trust my rage."

Man, was that poetry!

reply

This movie delivered visual poetry to match the intelligent adventure plot they crafted oh so well.

reply

Joy to the world!

reply

Is this only on the blu-ray?

I only bought it as a normal DVD and the only bonus features are:

-Jane learns about the aether
-Captain America: the Winter Soldier.

No commentary, no gag reels, no other deleted scenes......so disappointed!

reply

I dare the solo haters to name even one front where this film didn't deliver.

reply

My stick and my friends all love this movie.

reply

It really is as simple as that.

reply

Again, here is yet another case of real reaction being shared and savored. Why start new threads when it's all here already? Just read and comment here.

reply

No one can credibly say that this sequel didn't deliver the goods. Maybe some fans wanted more but they always want more than any two hour film can deliver.

reply

I STILL dare the solo haters to name even one front where this film didn't deliver.

reply

One of my favs of the year!

reply

Thor 3 will be here before we know it. Now I have to learn to spell Ragnorak.

(Did I do it right?????)

reply

I have no list of critiques but just a few. Better use of humor (not jammed in) would be on the short list.

I hope I read this one day with a healthy leg/back and remember.

reply

Plus, this may be the best commentary track on any Marvel film. Hiddleston, Fiege AND the director!
