I saw this film yesterday and I enjoyed it waaay more than inside out. Sorry to the people who enjoyed inside out but I liked the good dinosaur much more. I found the characters at least Arlo and spot more likeable.
I liked Inside Out so I don't completely disagree with you.
But the stakes seemed higher?
Granted, in either movie, they are fictional characters. I found The Good Dinosaur to be rather cookie cutter and predictable. And I am not one who watches movies trying to figure out what's going to happen next, but even I found this movie predictable in many places.
But one thing I thought that at least set it apart from Inside Out was there was more of a sense of danger here with the characters. While not the best Pixar movie, they are good at putting their characters in seemingly impossible situations and having them work their way out.
But Inside Out? Those were just characters representing the emotions of a little girl. Obviously, she was going to have to grow and mature and some of those childish emotions and emotional ties would have to come to an end as she grew. That was kind of the point of the story-the growing pains of growing up. There were no real stakes because it was just her maturing.
Honestly I preferred the Good Dinosaur I didn't like Inside Out I thought it was pretty boring and actually kind of derivative of Shark Boy and Lava girl, they even had the same Train of thought joke. I thought Spot pretty much made the movie.
I like TGD more, too. I could never quite view Inside Out's emotion characters as actual characters, and even if I pretended they were, I don't find them all that appealing, especially Joy, who is really the protagonist; Sadness has some appeal, but she just seems like a female Eeyore with less depth. In addition, the story is both extremely predictable and overly "on the nose" with every event related to the lessons being learned. TGD has its own shortcomings, but I can get into it a lot better. Personally, I don't see what the big deal is about Inside Out--in my opinion, it's the weakest of Pixar's last three movies.
I agree that The Good Dinosaur was better than Inside Out. But I didn't think either were very good.
Inside Out is probably my least favorite Pixar movie (below the Cars and Brave), but the Good Dino would be with those other couple as well. Inside Out was boring and I thought the whole thing with never being happy again because a character inside her head got flushed with the memories was dumb. (My wife had the same opinion.) The Good Dino was decent, but nothing special and it didn't feel like a Pixar movie. It felt like a Disney strait to DVD #2 movie of The Croods (I know that's not a Disney movie).
