Was Forky special needs?

The person I saw this with and I both think he was supposed to represent special needs kids, does anyone else agree?

reply

My interpretation of Forky is that he represents people with depression. The montage of him trying to throw himself away (harm himself) paired with the surprisingly deep lyrics in that Randy Newman song gave me that idea. I thought that Woody represented a friend trying to be there for someone who struggles to understand their feelings.

I'm more interested in knowing more about this "person" you saw this with. I love how you used the term "person" instead of friend/boyorgirlfriend/etc.

reply

hahaha just a friend, none of our other friends wanted to see it, but we both work at a residential facility with kids with special needs and extreme behaviors and there were some qualities in Forky that reminded both of us about the population we work with.

He was supposed to represnt plastic utensils.

*A r3t@rd3d plastic utensil

reply

ewww. you're disgusting.

reply

Could be very well that. Note he was called Forky despite being a spork, and not Sporky. Wonder if Warner Brothers would have sued Disney and Pixar had Sporky been the name (especially, in trailers, it SOUNDED like "Porky", and trailers DO feature different dialogue sometimes LOL).

reply

I was thinking he's more along the lines of an infant.
BTW concerning the name, the only reference I've come across to not calling him "Sporkie" is a pizza they serve at Bertucci's. You don't Disney was worried about that do you?

reply

I felt his arms being made from a pipe cleaner encourages kids to smoke. :-)

reply

I've heard that.

reply

Hmmm.. maybe.
Or just a new toy--like someone said an infant.
Although I'm not implying that people or children with special needs are infantile.

reply

No, he was retarded. Stop trying to hijack the word "special"... can you not remember when was used to describe someone that had superior abilities at something? If you were a parent you hoped your kid would be special and accomplish something great... Now too many people claimed the retarded are "special"... Does any parent really hope they have a retarded kid? Didn't think so. Now stop being a snowflake, retarded people are retarded not special.
