For those who haven't seen BR

DONT! For the love of all that is holy, don't! It's a shît movie. I kept hearing the same bs about HG ripping off this masterpiece called Battle Royale. So when I saw it on netflix, I figured I'd give it a shot. Such a horrendous POS! HG is far superior to BR. Not in originality cause technically BR came out first. But considering the only thing similar is the basic plot line being teens pitted up against each other in a fight to the death, HG isn't a ripoff. It's a completely different look, take, morals behind the games, morals addressed in the movie. Etc. still jus because everyone in HG is a better actor than anyone from BR isn't it's only problem. It's jus awful, I advise nobody waste their time giving these BR trolls the benefit of the doubt cause I was *beep* Also the whole movie is in Japanese or Chinese or some bs so you'd have to read this terrible story on top of everythin else.

The fault doesn't fall with Hollywood, it lies with we the audience. More people tune into the lesser, "dumbed down" shows, and simple metrics prove them to be more profitable. Public companies can't ignore those fiscal realities and survive for long. For the same reason, grocery stores are packed with a thousand kinds of high-fructose corn syrup, and the news interrupts discussions of important issues to cut to Justin Bieber's DUI sentencing or Kim Kardashian's new gluteal implants.

To be honest, we should be thankful for Hollywood ripoffs. Some networks produce 100% profitable garbage television; the ones that use the money from "dumbed down" shows to support less lucrative but intellectually superior content are balancing their mission with fiscal constraints and market realities. Maybe truly great cinema can't exist without reality pablum.

It's a shame that better content doesn't get the attention it deserves, but it's a good thing that they're producing it, and it's mainly our fault for collectively celebrating "Hunger Games" more than Battle Royale, which is so good that I'd consider it a real achievement of humanity.

I'd rather watch Battle Royale and Battle Royale II a hundred times that watch this again. Even the following books/movies are ripped from Battle Royale II, where the kids revolt against the system.

This movie is such a complete and utter rip-off of Battle Royale, a real cult classic from Japan. The author of the Hunger Games should be stripped of every cent they made from this movie and the books. Poor acting, BORING story and the costumes are horrible! They actually make the beautiful Elizabeth Banks revolting to the point that it takes away from what movie there is actually to watch.

BR is an awesome movie. While I enjoyed the HG films mildly... I prefer the novels.

Haven't gone deep into the BR source material but I'm actually a fan of both.

When no one else will add English subtitles to an Asian movie, we can always look to Hong Kong to get the job done. As English is actually the offficial language of certain parts of China. However, in this case I believe it was only in the US that there was no "official" release, which fails to take into account that there were several bootleg releases at the time, making Battle Royale actually more available then standard Hollywood fare, and at a more reasonable price.
