Has a certain charm to it.....

This movie is a very simple story (which is a lost art these days). If it doesn't have over the top action, CGI effects and all sorts of plot twists, it's apparently a disappointment. Not in my book.

Sure, Clint is probably too old for the character.........but he has earned the right to play it. The story itself was a pleasant reprieve from noisy bs like Fast and Furious 19. It has it's simple charms, and it felt like a nice cup of hot chocolate by a warm fire on an October evening.

These kinds of movies have become very rare, and we should appreciate them while we still have them. It felt like a modern western, with some wonderful cinematography and a great score. And what a bonus....to see the iconic Clint Eastwood onscreen again.

This movie is comfort food. In a world where fast food, fast cars and a fast, impatient landscape is rammed down our throats....I'll take a handmade tamale, a cerveza and a warm fire once in a while.

Any other actor besides Clint, and this movie gets zero attention.

I like the scenery in the movie, and however old he may be, I do like Clint Eastwood. But the movie had major flaws - the Mexican boy wasn't a good actor, the time where they mingled with Martha seemed to drag too long, Martha seemed to be shoved in front of us to give Clint's character a happy conclusion (i.e. so Clint's character doesn't just go home all alone at the end) etc.

I also feel the whole backstory about the boy's parents and the investments seemed undeveloped and un-interesting.

I get what your mean. I too like to see more of these movies.

But the execution was a problem. I think that if Eastwood had cast another actor for the lead, it would’ve worked better. Plus, Minett’s acting was pretty bad. I am sure they could’ve found better child actors.

Overall, it was a weak film.

Yeah, Clint twenty years ago could have pulled this off, but he is just too old for a role like this now. Even in simple scenes like crossing the border, couldn't conceal his age as his hand shook uncontrollably when he was having over his ID. As far as ridiculously untalented actors that his character can be a mentor too, he as a long history of that (e.g. Josey Wales, Unforgiven, Million Dollar Baby, Gran Torino, and now Cry Macho). Clint is an icon, but he is 91 now and should probably call it a career, except for maybe cameos or guest appearances in other peoples' films
