It simply doesn't work.
It's impossible to engage in suspension of disbelief with Jim Carey doing anything other than comedy.
He's a phenomenal dramatic performer.
The only thing that doesn't work is your ability to distinguish an actor from the roles they play.
The Truman Show, Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind and The Majestic were all dramatic films where Jim Carrey gave an incredible performance, I wish he would do a whole lot more films like this.
Although The Number 23 wasn't a great film by any standards, it wasn't Carrey's performance that let it down, that was the fault of the writer's. You need to be able to distinguish whether an actor makes a film bad or whether it was other aspects of the film that has tarnished your view of said actor.
OP is way wrong on this. Jim can act better than most actors that are specialized dramatic actors in Hollywood. He just doesn't get as many scripts for it because of people like OP that pigeon hole him into comedy.

nonsense, truman show, eternal sunshine... he's great. it works best when he is allowed to add in a bit of his comedy as well though, creates a very nice balance and serves as a great juxtaposition for the drama in his films

I can't stand his comedies but love his dramas..It's about the same with Adam Sandler.
Their comedies are just too slap stick and over the top but I think they shine in dramatic roles.

I don't about him, but I'm smoking out. I must be to answer this after two years. However, is a good actor, but he's already typecasted.
