James Gunn to bring Pattinson’s Batman into the DC universe?

But at least one core element of the so-called Snyderverse is likely over: A well-placed source says Gunn and Safran are exploring the possibility of incorporating filmmaker Matt Reeves’ iteration of Batman with actor Robert Pattinson into their wider universe.

Eh, why not. Keaton clearly can't be The Batman for the next 10 years. He's already 71. Would make an excellent Bruce Wayne in a Batman Beyond project though.

Same with Affleck. I really liked his Batman. But apparently, staying in shape & the physicality of the role seemed too much for him.

Makes sense to make the younger actor the Batman for the next decade. Instead of recasting, again!

They'd be fools not to. It's a big deal moving forward. Batman is the center of the DC universe. Do you want young Batman or old seasoned Batman. It's gonna set the tone for everything around it.

In my opinion, if DC are serious about following in Marvel's footsteps, they need to create some more independent films before trying to blend them all together. Generally-speaking, audiences love Pattinson's Batman. Make us love a couple more guys (Green Lantern could use a decent film, for instance) and then bring 'em into one film.

ive noticed THR, Variety and maybe Deadline (all usually legit solid reliable) have been posting alot of speculation BS pieces recently esp relating to DC with lots of assumptions and guess work . it seems they almost heading down the WeGotThisCovered/Giant Fricking Robot/Cosmic levels of journalistic BS (prob bc they hiring new young journos who specialise in this crap)

The two best DC movies at least since the Nolan trilogy has been The Joker and The Batman. It would be sad to drag them into the Snyderverse.

reply

There *is* no more "Snyderverse." One thing is clear: DC has NO idea what they're doing. Multiple versions of multiple characters, in multiple universes, w/no cohesion or rhyme or reason. Ah well. . .not like they had iconic, easy-to-win-with characters and storylines to start with, right? That would be impossible to mess up, bringing to the big screen, right?

Right?

Sigh.

This version of Batman doesn't fit the theme of space aliens, flying superheros, and men who communicate with fish. Not that I'm knocking that since that's what was in the comics, but Pattinson's Batman world is similar to Christian Bale's Batman world. They are two men who throw on a suit and kick people's asses and grounded in a much more realistic atmosphere.

Christian Bale's Batman could've headed in the direction of supernatural/unrealistic villains. I just thought in Batman Begins he was dealing with the mob and things would eventually escalate (I still feel that way after re-watching Batman after knowing where things go in The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises). Plus there is Scarecrow. With the fear toxin/gas he had and all the hallucinations, Scarecrow did seem like that transition/in-between villain that kind of teased the eventual escalation of villains like Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, Clayface, Killer Croc, Bane with venom, and so on. Oh and then if you read the novel tie-in to Batman Begins, Ra's is actually a couple hundred years old. I want to say 500-600 years old. The novel includes journey entries from Ra's, and in those journal entries, the Lazarus Pit was mentioned and Ra's has used it a couple times.

But The Batman could do the same as well. Things can always escalate. It's just for now, Batman is dealing with more realistic villains. And with everything going on in the events of The Batman, it didn't seem like there was a right time (or downtime) to mention the supernatural/unrealistic aspect of Batman or that other heroes like Superman, The Flash, Aquaman, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, and Wonder Woman existed in the universe. There is nothing supernatural about The Riddler, Penguin, sort of Joker, all the mob bosses, and maybe Catwoman (they are turning her more into a hero lately), so there really was no point to mention the supernatural/unrealistic stuff about the Batman character and his universe and well known villains. And I wouldn't call BS if The Batman 2 or 3 included more supernatural/unrealistic villains. From how The Batman played out, I just figured we haven't got there yet and they aren't rushing stuff and are saving stuff for sequels. Just like I'm not expecting every Pattinson Batman movie to be a detective/investigation movie.

reply

Yeah, Gunn said that wasn't happening. I can live with Batman not being in the greater DCU for a while. Replace him with Green Arrow like the CW shows did for a while.

reply

Frankly i rather they cast a new person as Batman for the Reboot DCCU. Battinson barely look like he done a pushup in his life. Let alone spent a decade training his mind and body like Batman did in the comics.
