I hope this Batman refrains from using Joker so soon

I don't think anything has been confirmed yet, but chances are this will end up as a franchise because I don't think there's ever been a one off live action Batman film. That being said I hope they avoid using Joker, at least in the first few movies. I know he's Batman's main villain, but once he's introduced I just feel like he overshadows all the other villains when there's so many other greats that can be pulled from.

I'm super excited to be getting another iteration of Riddler in this film as well as the possibility of Hush.

I definitely see this becoming a franchise but not a whole universe building with spin-offs and crossovers. This movie will probably be the start of a 3 film trilogy and I hope it turns out to be that way.

As for the Joker, yes I can definitely see where your coming from in regards to other villians being put aside and overlooked because of him. Joker is a very popular character and personally my favorite villian ever but I wouldnt mind if they lay low on the character for this particular Batman franchise. The only thing odd about not having the character involved in another Batman story arc in film is that the Joker is pretty much the most essential character in the Batman universe aside from Batman himself & that the Joker has had a massive impact on Batman, which made him evolve more as a hero & develop throughout his crime fighting tenure.

I'm very excited to see how they handle Riddler in the film. Paul Dano is a great/underrated actor and I'm very optimistic about his portrayal of the character.

reply

Yeah I would say at least a trilogy if not maybe a couple more films after that. I don't see spinoffs happening either. Personally as a character as well, I prefer to see Batman on his own as opposed to fighting on a team like the Justice League. I just prefer the more grounded nature of him.

I would say if it is just a trilogy, I hope they'd save Joker for the last film personally.

As much as I'm excited to see Paul Dano's take on Riddle, which I think he'll absolutely nail, I'm also excited to see Zoe Kravitz take on Catwoman.

reply

Absolutely. If it's going to be more than 3 films, I'll definitely be ok with that as long as like I said, it wont be any shared universe building with crossovers/spin-offs. I also completely agree with your take on Batman being on his own rather than a group of heros. Im a fan of teamed superheros like the Avengers, Justice League, X-Men, etc but a character like Batman doesn't necessarily fit in with a group of teamed heros. I look at Batman as one of those cool badass lone wolfs like a James Bond or Clint Eastwoods Blondie. So having him as being a part of a superhero team kinda defeats the purpose of that characterization Batman has & especially since the other Justice League members don't share similar traits like that at all such as characters like Flash or Aquaman, which would kind of take away that great aspect of Batman cause he just doesn't fit it in really. In regards to a more grounded nature of him, yes having him being part of a team like that does deprive the grounded reality of him. I don't mind the villianous superhuman characters such as Poison Ivy or Clay face because these are dark foes he's facing that gives a significant challenge to him and are also in line with the gritty feel of the overall comic universe of Batman.

If this Batman franchise does end up becoming a trilogy or running long, having Joker at the end would be pretty fitting I agree. Like he is regarding as Batmans main arch enemy so it would be pretty cool to have him as the villian in the last film. If thats the case though, I really hope they do bring back Joaquin for the role to face off against Pattinson. That would honestly be the only crossover I would be OK with actually.

Yes, I have high hopes for Danos Riddler and Kravtiz's catwoman as well.

Also hoping they skip the death of the Waynes. We all know the story by now and I'd like to avoid seeing Martha's cheap pearl necklace going all over the place for hundredth time.

reply

I'm sure they would and especially due to the fact that Reeves said that this will be a year 2 Batman film so it's not necessary essential to have another death of the Waynes scene. It will probably be implied but I doubt we'll have another on screen representation.

reply

I wouldn't be too worried about Joker showing up anytime soon, but they should focus on other villains like we're getting Riddler, Penguin and Catwoman, so in future instalments I'd like to see Two-Face, Mad Hatter, Man-Bat, Firefly, Clayface, and Mr. Freeze.

reply

I'd love to see another take on Mr Freeze. Firefly would be great too.

reply

I genuinely hope we never see Joker to be honest. Or if we do, it's a very, very minor screentime.

reply

The casual movie goer knows Joker, and after Joker made so much money, why would they refrain? These films are not made to cater to hardcore comic fans simply b/c those viewers are only one small slice of the audience. Batman sells and Joker sells, so if the first film works, they'll go there and cash in once again.

reply

I'm nowhere near a hardcore comic fan, especially when it comes to DC. With Batman, they really don't need the Joker to sell it. People love Batman regardless.

reply

Joker with only a hint of Bruce Wayne just made 1bil worldwide (more than Batman vs Superman). The next actor to play Joker has become as much of a thing as Batman. And I didn't mean to single you out; I was just referring to the all the replies who are pointing to villains the average person might not know at all. They won't pass on the dollars when they are so obviously there for the number one villain. They'll keep rebooting Joker just as they keep rebooting Batman.

reply

I don't necessarily have a problem with them using Joker eventually, I just don't want them using him so soon. Let it build for future films because there's no way this Batman movie will just be a one off.

reply

We don’t need anymore joker!

reply

Yesss! I completely with ya. Batman, along with Spider-Man, have the BEST Rogues Gallery ina lol of comics in my opinion. But we rarely get to see most of them on the big screen, they just mostly reuse the same one.

I'm honestly glad that the MCU Spider-Man has used new villains for the live action films so far.

Hope we get to see some new faces in this new iteration of Batman & Gotham.

reply

Well they are already blowing The Penguin, The Riddler and Catwoman on the first movie so I’m willing to be the Joker isn’t too far behind.
