Almost completely put off by the ridiculous host duo...

Does anyone else find sue perkins (especially sue) and the other host remotely funny? Because I don't in the least. They almost kill the whole show with their awkward little jokes and pund, it is so painful! They don't even seem to match the whole tone of the show. Wish they had hosts as classy, calm and normal as the judges. And only one host actually. What is the point of 2? Especially those 2....

reply

No, I love Mel and Sue. I think they're both very funny and yet kind and helpful to contestants. Just starting to watch the final and I'm ridiculously excited!

reply

I love them too, especially Sue. My only problem with either of them is that they sometimes have a tendency to get in the bakers' way and, in a few instances, have even ruined some of their bakes (Sue putting her elbow in Howard's muffin dough comes to mind). To be fair, Mel and Sue always let Mary and Paul know when they've damaged something so that the bakers won't get in trouble.

In Season 6, Episode 4, the bakers were doing crème brulee in the Signature Bake and it cracked me up that after Mary and Paul judged Tamal, Sue very quietly stacked up about 5 or 6 of his crème brulees and walked away with them... even Paul chuckled at that.

I think Mel and Sue's humor helps to relax the bakers. They're also there for a comforting hug or words of support if a baker is feeling like a failure. In my opinion, the show wouldn't be the same without them. I'd still watch it but I absolutely love these two. Being an American, I'd never seen either of them before I started watching this show but I'm so glad to see them every episode.

They're NOT.FUCKIN.FUNNY

Just a pair on PC dikes

Hm well maybe you guys have seen seasons i havent, because so far they're pretty cheesy to me, doesnt come off as real humor at all. And i dont think, at least in the season i'm watching on netflix, that the contestants are crazy about them, a few just chuckle awkwardly, and i donct think chetna likes sue at all! I love her snide replies to sue's obnoxious comments and hovering around her station. I guess when i think of funny hosts i think of chaps like eric idle and other clever comedians who actually make me laugh. Sorry but sue & mel just make me cringe and roll my eyes. Feel like they'd do better on a
kids' show. Guess i am the only one though! :p

reply

Huh, I think Sue and Mel are the only hosts where I can honestly say that I love them 

I really like them. They are close friends and I think this communicates itself.

More importantly, it seems that they are universally loved by the contestants who have said that they put them at ease, dispel tension and help to bring a sense of perspective when something goes wrong. They clearly do much more than what we see.

I just finished watching Season 6, Episode 10 on YouTube and it was a reunion of sorts with the bakers from Season 5 (Nancy, Luis, Martha, Chetna, etc.). There was a section about Mel and Sue and the bakers really seemed to love them and appreciate their humor, support, and the extra set of hands when they need them.

reply

Yep watching it streaming on netflix. Or did, finished it.

reply

I like them both, but they definitely need to keep their noses out of the baker's way. Mel stuck her elbow in the muffins and I still believe it was her fault that Beca's tower fell. Other than that, I don't mind them.

Tonight Mel tried to 'help' Ruby clean up and almost threw away her 'vegetables'.  They need to keep their distance. 

Aside from the odd off-putting 'ready, set, BAKE' from time to time I quite like them both and think they add another element to the show.
They are insiders but they aren't judges so the competitors can relax a little with them (and they can lend a hand carry plates up to the front when necessary).

reply

Both are first & foremost comedians. That being said, comedy is the most subjective of all. For me they make the show. The contestants are so nervous, I think it helps them relax just a wee bit. If you ever saw the American version with Jeff Foxworthy-that was not so good. Classy & calm as the judges-no. Sorry that would be boring. Just my opinion😀

reply

I agree. I find them rather annoying.

They annoy me. Especially when they get in the way of the bakers, crowding in on them and touching their food. I don't find them amusing at all.

reply

The contestants don't seem to find them a hindrance.
