This show is great! When does it jump the shark??

Just started this on netflix. It's wonderful. But there's no way this can stay good for years on end. So how much of the good stuff am I in for? I like fair warning.

Like thecritic said, it really depends on what you're willing to tolerate, but for me the show "jumped the shark" when the Frozen characters were added, and then it went downhill with Merida and the Brave characters.

Specifically for me the first two and a half season were the peak. I feel like that mid-season finale of season 3 was the best. I believe that's the one where Rumple sacrifices himself to save Storybrooke or something.
It felt like such a perfect bookend to the story. The moment they brought in the Frozen characters which I think was the other half of season 3, that's when it took a nosedive.

To this day I've seen almost up to the last of season 5 where Red Riding Hood finds her gay soulmate but couldn't manage to get myself past that episode to bother caring anymore. The show is no longer about classical Disney/grimm fairytales, it's just about Disney now. Which is lame.

I can't speak as to whether it gets better after season 5 or not, so if it does that would make me happy, but man, between 2.5 and 6 is a real shitshow.

It jumps the shark this season.

The original cast left because their contracts expired, and they have whole new actors. Like every tv series, after the original cast leaves ratings went down and it wasn't the same!

It's mostly just a matter of personal opinion, depending on what you like on the show and how far you're willing to go before you can't stand it anymore. I think the show jumped the shark with the 4th season, but that's just me. After that the writers got so lazy they couldn't even keep up the continuity and decided to make it all like Supernatural instead of a fun fairy-tale romp with grown-ups. That, and they put in a lot of story concepts after season 4 that just plain ruined the show.

But then again, I started having issues with it long before season 4, but again, that's just a personal opinion.

Can't tell you an exact season but they start throwing in characters from just about every work of fiction around. They should have stuck to a core theme of fairy tales.
