if there's a 10 second quiet - BAM - in your face, ear poppin' jump scare.
Just because you're loud doesn't make you good.
Subtlety in Horror is appreciated more than lazy jump scares.

shareActually, this movie wasn’t that scary (only because it’s the same ole story you know what will happen). Suspenseful yes. And embodied subtlety in horror. Not having jump scares in an Alien movie? Has to be. I for one did not notice like I did in Longlegs. Alien: Romulus is still a first rate movie. Especially, at the beginning - which I thought was going to lead us into the best movie ever.

I don't mind jump scares - if they're scary. Most of these weren't. Just empty noise.
But didn’t you like the place at the beginning whatever that was - it was electrifying. A little like Blade Runner. I’m copying bobbydallas here - he gives the beginning a 9.7 - “the beginning sequence (Nostromo debris, etc) and the introduction of characters and their decrepit colony lifestyle was amazing.” The visual and buzz of that place. It was the only original part. I can’t help but think that if Fede Alvarez didn’t have to make a sequel, he could have made an original masterpiece.
