what is wrong With you people?

American Hustle was a fantastic movie! I loved every part of it, the story, the acting, casting, writing, etc. And more importantly it made me a new fan of Christian Bale and David O Russell. Isn't that one of the goals of a big movie with an all star cast? (At least for the studios anyway) To draw in people who wouldn't have otherwise been interested? I was very happy to see Amy Adams show some depth instead of her usual character. Jennifer Lawrence, though cliche (and maybe even stereotypical) was very entertaining. The characters were strong and memorable. The movie invokes emotion (another goal of a good movie). Laughter, concern, frustration, stress, sorrow and the whole nine. How can anybody not like it?

I enjoyed it, and the idea is great, but it's bogged down with convoluted scenes, mostly in the dialogue area, and Bradley Cooper. He sucked. His character got on my nerves. At the same time, Bale and Adams are awesome. They're why it works as well as it does, even if it isn't that well.

Here comes the future! Here it is! Gee, it was a lot like the past.

Hmmmm, interesting.

I'll only add that perhaps Cooper's character was supposed to be annoying.

He annoyed me too.

I liked it, but it's massively overrated. The characters feel like cartoons, the overuse of music to evoke said emotion is irritating, and the story didn't have a good enough payoff. I'd give it a 7/10.

self indulgent mediocrity as another person described it. Jeremy Renner was the only character that felt slightly believable.

For 2013, American Hustle was as good as Gravity which won 7 Oscars and American Hustle 0. Tragic. Prisoners was a better movie than either but it won 0 Oscars. Sad why the worst of the 3 films won too many Oscars. But the Academy messes up and if you ever look at the Best Pictures and highest rated films of all-time, the Academy misses more than 50% of the time. Right now, Prisoners is rated #230 among all-time movies and is higher rated than Gravity or Hustle. But I agree, this movie is as good as the overrated Gravity and should have been strongly considered for a couple Oscars. Better than the 7.3 IMDB rating.

I watched it with no expectations and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I just watched it today and like with all movies where my favorite actors, particularly Christian Bale and Bradley Cooper, are in; I always watch it. I tried to get into it; however, I lost it after Adam's character went to jail. I was actually more into responding on these message boards than watching the movie and I just turned the movie off.

The director of this movie, well according to the trivia section, said that it was to be more of a character driven movie than a story based one. Christian Bale even replied that if he just said what he wanted, the plot would be totally affected and it was. This was why so many people were so bored with it. It was a great way to display the characters; however, at the expense of making a good movie. It is basically a money grab from the fans of these characters. Write a faulty script, get big name actors, director invests "x" amount of money into film and gets the production companies to pay for everything else, the actors say what comes to their minds, audience comes to see it, and break $100 million. Notice how the budget for this movie was really low and the amount of revenue, it generated, was also pretty low.

I never went to see it in theaters,so very little money coming from me and I actually am a huge fan of both Bradley Cooper and Christian Bale. To this day, I still remember myself debating on whether or not to see this, when it came out. Gut instinct prevails!

Reminder: The O.C. comes back on POP network March 8th at 1 p.m. EST

I agree this movie receives far too much criticism. It's a very enjoyable movie with fantastic performances by Bale and Renner. Amy Adams was surprisingly enjoyable as well. It's a fun experiment by O Russell.
