better with age
I'm one of the PTA fanboys who gave it a disappointing "C" after first take. But it's definitely a B+ after 2 more viewings. May be an "A" 20 years from now...

shareI love this movie and think it's highly underrated, reminds me of A Serious Man in that sense.
shareIt's like an even weirder version of The Long Goodbye. The Long Goodbye wasn't my favorite, when I first saw it. Now? I absolutely adore it as one of my favorite contributions to 70's cinema. Inherent Vice was also good, but growing on great, after repeat viewings.
shareIt's only 2 years old.
shareThis is my favorite film by PTA. Not his best film, but my favorite from him. I think it's hilarious and I love the druggy haziness that builds throughout, making it seem like a new watch every time.
It's one of the only films that remains funny every time, at least for me, because the jokes sneak up on you and you can find new things every time.
So glad people have been warming up to this, even though the IMDB rating is kinda crappy.
I liked this movie from the get-go, but while I didn't fully understand it 100% on the first viewing, it just fascinated me in such a way that I had to keep watching it repeatedly. It was an obsession for a few months. I think I've seen it like seven times now.
Some movies are like that. Growers.
I haven't seen this movie yet, but intend to this weekend.
That's the thing about Anderson films, you need to rewatch them and a lot of his work you don't get on the first go. The only ones I think you get on first go, well i did first time out were Boogie Nights and There Will Be Blood. It took me a few watches to get The Master, and i love it now. Punch Drunk Love and Inherent Vice took me another watch and I loved them. Phantom Thread was the same.
