What do you think 'one big scare' was?

Back when all the reviews were coming out, several mention one scare that was the biggest the series has ever had, but obviously they didn't specify so as not to spoil it.

So what do you think it was?

Personally, I'm not sure. The scariest part for me was the hair pull. But largest in scale was probably the kitchen furniture drop. I thought it would something from the last act, as several reviews also mentioned the last 15 minutes being absolutely terrifying, but there wasn't really a big scare in that section.

I think the one big scare was the part where Dennis finds the group of 60 year old women in that shed.

leading up to it: he sees the shadow in the window goes to the room sees nothing, finds the symbols on the walls and heads to the shed since the door of the house is open towards it.

opening the shed, you'd expect oh it'll be one of the girls or the grandmother.....NOPE IT'S A BUNCH OF OLD WOMEN IN ALL BLACK AND THEY'RE NOT HAPPY......

Dennis reacts like anyone else would: he runs back into the house, locks to the door and see the old ladies FOLLOWING HIM, SO SCARY!!!

the ending is so scary as a whole but that was the scariest.

the scariest part of the movie to me was the hole ending, starting from the part when Julie just ..dissapears. That part just reallly creeped me out.
I think because of the way it was so random, and WEIRD, one minute they're in bed and chatting a little and then she leaves in a kinda "be back in 2 seconds" attitude and 4 minutes have passed, and there is no ansewer, and then he discovers the girls aren't in bed either, then that hole scene with Dennis walking around grandma's house, then he finds old women in a garage and goes "WTF " and runs back into the house and sees them walking thowards him as he closes the door.
Holy crap, really that's the scariest sequence I've ever seen in a movie.
AMAZING writing and directing to create a really disturbing feeling.

Paul Avery: Someone should write a *beep* book, that's for sure.

1. The babysitter going "BOO!" at the camera.
2. When the wife jumped out of the closet wearing the mask.

Neither were scary but these were the only times when I physically reacted to the movie.

Certainly the girl getting lifted up by the hair creeped me out. That was probably the scariest part. Second to that was the bloody mary part where the guy gets cut and the door starts rattling.

Scariest scene had to have been the unfolding of it all in the last ten minutes starting from the phantom figure after Dennis sees the symbols. And then capped off with the witches. Such a great reaction as an actor. He had more shock like a wtf feel that turned into fear. And then they started to pursue him. The zoom into their old faces you wondered if they were ghost or real. That bonfire setup added to the effect as well. Although I think that was the scariest scene the Toby behind the babysitter gag was definitely the "it" scare. That was the part where I had my wtf just happened expression.

The only bit that really got me was the old women at the end

There were a few creepy bits but personally I laughed when I saw the pony tail pulling bit!

Do guys like "the thing"?
They like it better than no thing.

Honestly, none of the ghost stuff was all that scary to me as it had been done to death in the previous installments. The only part I found truly creepy/frightening was at the end at the grandma's house when Dennis turned on the lights and found the witches. I would've crapped my pants if something like that happened to me.

I just found the one big scare. It's called watch your acting career fade away after appearing in this series. The proof....I saw the actor who played Dennis in a car commercial..Nissan or Honda, I think. He had no lines, but he stood there with a big dumb grin on his face. He had the the same hair and beard as he did in PA3.

By the time the sheet scene occurred I was incredibly bored and felt I had wasted my money. Then the camera turns back and I went "holy ---- WTF is that!" The figure disappeared before she could see it, but I wonder what the babysitter thought was the reason it appeared there?
I give her props because after the wind blows on her when she was upstairs she makes sure the girls are still sleeping; I would have screamed, woken them up and run out of the house.

I loved the ghost scene. It was so simple but so effective. I don't know if that was the "one big scare" but I know the scene at the end when Dennis opens the door to the shed(?) and turns on the lights and the women are all standing around REALLY freaked me out. I just watched it again and I knew it was going to happen but I still jumped.

To be honest, the part where Julie jumps out of the closet wearing the mask made me jump and let out a tiny scream... and that was the only part of the movie that gave me that reaction, even though I did find the sheet part spooky and creepy. What is the hair pull part everyone is referring to, I cant seem to remember it??

reply

The hair pull is when Kristi is running upstairs with Katie chasing her. All of a sudden, Katie seems to hit an invisible wall and then backs off a bit. She starts to get scared and then the demon grabs her by the hair and lifts her up about 2 feet off of the floor.

I can't actually remember this sheet scene that everybody's talking about! I only watched the film a couple of days ago too, it must have happened whilst I was getting a beer or something - I'll take a look next time it's on Sky.

The most effective scene for me was the kitchen furniture, but it was more like a Poltergeist style excellently done "whoah" scene rather than genuinely scary.

The biggest jump scene for me was when you see all of the old women standing in that room near the end, genuinely creepy - but I couldn't help thinking that in that situation when they were walking towards me my instinct would be to punch them in the face rather than try to hide!

reply

Agreed! At first I noticed the phone was missing since I was focused on its size before she hung up. Then released the actress was worried more about something in the kitchen, right when I realized the stuff was gone, it all came crashing down! Scared the *beep* outa me.

Also found a revealing mistake, submitted a goof for that scene.
