Body horror? Sounds like a premise for an early Cronenburg movie.
Will I be grossed out if I watch? I'm worried.

Dunno.
It directly references David Cronenberg. But it's not as heavily influenced by David Cronenberg as most people seem to suggest.
I mean it's in there. But so is Re-Animator, Basket Case, and (quite a lot of) Society. It's a bit of a compendium of body horror stuff... And there's nods to The Elephant Man and Carrie thrown in for good measure too.
If none of that sounds enjoyable to you, I'd probably skip it. But it's not heavy.
Cronenburg liked this movie a lot, as well as Titane, the French movie from the year before. Both are great.
shareAre you grossed out by Body Horror films? If so, you might be by this film as well.
It's a great film, though, so if you can stomach the gross stuff, it's well worth a watch.
The "horror" of this film reminded me a bit of The Fly (1986) with Jeff Goldblum. It starts of quite normal and then it gets weirder and weirder.
shareExcept The Fly kept the audience's suspension of disbelief and felt grounded no matter how weird it got. The Substance progressively got more over-the-top and ridiculous until it went full retard by the end.
shareI guess so... but that is probably because The Fly is more of a sci-fi horror and The Substance is more about emotions/message. I was talking mainly about the visuals and gradation of the horror.
