Why did the nurse have a lesion on his hand

When he gave Elisabeth the USB?

Could it be he's the "matrix", and his other self stole time? He's not old or unattractive enough to need the Substance though.

reply

Pretty sure he was the younger version of the old dude in the Cafe. I assume you use the stuff long enough it affects both people. Seems like he was smart enough to stick to the 7 day rule though.

reply

It seemed like a device to make us realise the young male nurse is the pathetic old man inside the dinner. Which makes little sense. Why would his "better version" keep that huge birthmark on its hand? If it was body damage from staying longer than 7 days, then why would the young man have it while Sue doesn't get Elisabeth's damage bits?

reply

What damage bits?

reply

The accelerated aging or rotting of the finger, hand and leg Elizabeth suffers don't apply to Sue's body. So why would the young nurse carry on the damage of his older self?

reply

Birthmark.

reply

Its a birthmark, therefore he had it even when he was younger, so it makes sense it would still be there on the other self, its not an imperfection due to age or damage thats been done to you.

reply

Depends if the Substance Copies are meant to be literally the person when they were younger ... or if they're perfect in every way, including being younger.

reply

If the "better version" was just a younger version, then everybody would have recognized Elisabeth. She was a famous actress for her whole life, hence of the magazine covers and posters of her ranging from her 20s to 50s.

reply

The better version may not be en exact clone of yourself when you was younger, but i get the feeling birthmarks carry over like the eye color does. How else do you explain the birthmark on the the dudes hand being on both the old and and the younger version?

As for why the younger version doesn't get rid of it i mean its just a way to show Elizabeth they're the same person, its not much deeper than that.

reply

"pathetic old man"?

He's just an old man.

reply

This.

I know the word, thank you. And it's not good to look at others with pity just because they're old.

reply

Oh my gosh, it's actually so obvious - I somehow missed the VERY OBVIOUS intercuts both times I saw the movie, showing the old man and the nurse flashing up with each other.

Thanks everyone!

Birthmark - Elizabeth had one too that was copied onto 'Sue' which helped establish they were the same person.
