Undoubtably the worst ending I've ever seen
Seriously. In serious anger after finishing this film. What a waste of time.

shareAgreed. But they obviously wanted to not piss off the devout followers whereas offending the sensible/logical people is never damaging in the fantasy world of films. It was >THIS< close to being a good film and they ruinsed it!

I don't think I even understood the ending it was good up to the end SPOILER. So was the assistant someone that had powers and just didn't know he did? I know Silver was a fraud.
shareYou got it. It's a stupid ending, I agree. My question is did he know the whole time that he had these powers? If so why was he SO shocked when the lights blew after he hit the on switch the 1st time he goes to investigate Silver on his own?
Also, why would that happen? Lots of things make no sense after the big twist, which is too bad as it could have been a good movie had they trimmed some of the middle nothingness run-time and changed the ending...

Yep...the end was a big let down. It didn't even make sense to me at first either. I was looking for some twist behind the twist because the actual twist was weak. When it became apparent that nope, that was it, I was just...'huh?'
I am amazed three such great actors gave themselves to this tosh. Though...to be fair, De Niro and Weaver both cut interesting, engaging characters but Murphy got a bum deal (still...nice eye-candy)
Its not the worst ending I've ever seen, but its pretty bad!
This film started out great, but lost it in the last 1/4.
The film didn't seem to know what *kind* of film it wanted to be! It jumped all over the place, and the ending didn't make much sense. How did it suddenly become a film about the personal journey of a young psychic?!!

"Penfold, shush."
Are you questioning Bobs power?
shareHow was it a bad ending? The movie was about a skeptic exposing the phonies from (as you find out in the end) the people with real powers. Otherwise the plot was about a skeptic just trying to expose charlatans. And in his experience, he finds someone that is very convincing, Simon Silver. So the main character is in a constant struggle to attempt to expose Simon Silver, no matter how convincing he may be.
As it turns out the main character is the real deal and is the reason behind the chaos that we thought was the result of Silvers power.
A bad ending? I think not. It tied up the loose ends and threw a curve ball that no one could have expected and yet the clues were all there throughout the movie for us to find.
