at the end of the day, Tom Cruise is writing stories for Tom Cruise,” Jacinto, who’s Filipino Canadian, told the outlet. “It’s up to us — Asian Americans, people of color — to be that [for ourselves]. We can’t wait for somebody else to do it. If we want bigger stories out there, we have to make them for ourselves.”

Ding ding ding!!!

Exactly! But they can't. Minorities are incapable of creating their own film franchises, their own stories, and their own characters. All they can do is beg a white man to create something cool and then bitch at him for not including them in it.

As regards to him being cut. Yes, we get it, the original Top Gun had an all white cast with all male pilots, and that's unacceptable in today's environment, but they don't have to always cast people just to fill a quota, you need good actors, which I'm assuming is why this guy had his lines cut - he wasn't good enough.

Top Gun Maverick was chock full of diversity regardless, and it was a pale imitation of the original.

Let me guess, you’re a white guy.

Actors have their lines cut, or have their entire characters cut. Welcome to Hollywood. This has been happening ever since the movie business started.

With white actors, they're cut from films because they aren't good enough and have to improve, and they accept that. Happened to Brad Pitt and George Clooney in the 80s, and they went on to become superstars in the 90s. All actors are told this and use it as fuel to get better.

With minorities, their lines are cut from films because white people are racist and are making films for themselves. I believe Ernie Hudson recently said something similar about Harold Ramis and Ivan Reitman when they made Ghostbusters. Maybe minority actors don't understand constructive criticism?

I don't know what happened to this guy's scenes in this movie. But, they had a lot of characters and plot to get through and not a lot of time to do it in. Glen Powell "made his mark" in this film, but I don't remember him having a lot of screen time. A decent amount, yes, but not a whole lot.

reply

Yes, there were too many characters in the movie, which is a problem.

Maverick already had two black buddies in the movie, so the Asian guy was lower priority and had to go.

They are more trouble than they're worth.

He is still waiting - as far as I know, Leslie something something, showrunner for "The Acolyte", is neither asian, nor a person of color.

If it's a woman that does check the DEI box at least.

Her name is Lesbo Noheadland.

Don't hire a DEI actor, they complain, hire a DEI actor, they complain. Damned if ya do, damned if ya don't.
