I do not understand why it was scored as low as it was. Rami did an amazing job as Freddie! Really nailed it.
I loved Mike Myers too, and that Wayne's World joke was great!
I also loved that they showed his obsession with his cats. That is one of the things I love most about him.
My lone complaint is that Jim was not given the air time he deserved. I wish it would have went after Live Aid a while.
I enjoyed it a great deal
Rami Malek was really amazing
They gave a respectful, PG 13 treatment to the story that i found to be in good taste and fair
And yes! What a blast to see Mike Meyers in that role:)
Very good movie
Freddie Mercury was not diagnosed with HIV until well after Live Aid. That pretty much makes a sham of what was shown in the film, but if one replaced Live Aid with the concerts at Wembley through Knebworth in 1986, it is much closer to the facts. Although Mercury was not officially diagnosed until 1987, he exhibited signs, including fatigue and weight loss, of the disease while on tour.
In fact, Queen did not do any live shows after the official diagnosis, as Mercury was more concerned with creating studio music up to his death. The vocals for Innuendo and Made in Heaven were laid down during this time. I believe the movie would have been better if they had shown this instead of wasting so much time fighting with the made up studio executive played by Mike Myers.
1 : a trick that deludes : hoax ... feared that the deal was a sham
2 : cheap falseness : hypocrisy ... saw through the hollowness, the sham, the silliness of the empty pageant— Oscar Wilde
3 : an ornamental covering for a pillow
4 : an imitation or counterfeit purporting to be genuine
5 : a person who shams
The changes in time and substance created both a delusion and a falseness. How is that not a sham? Basically, this is a film "based on real events", but it is not a valid biopic because it takes too many liberties with the facts.
Its been a couple years now so might not be word for word but when they play Mike Myers character the title song he says something like:
Its good but kids are not gonna be headbanging in their cars to it.
Brilliant! I love cross jokes like that. Like the first season of Orange Is The New Black had a couple good American Pie jokes in it related to Jason Biggs.
Thanks. I just watched it on youtube. Very close. He's suggesting other songs, like "I'm in love with my car," which he called the kind of song teenagers can drive around and bang their heads to.
It is a good movie but I do think the current IMDB rating of 8/10 is a little too high. It doesn't follow the real story that well but I know they do this in movies so, I will forgive them, would have been even better if they had decided to stick a little closer to the real story. Still, I'd give it a solid 7/10. It's worth a look if you have any interest at all in Queen or FM.
