Is this show really just disliked cause of it's creator and main star

The critic's go crazy for Girls, think it's the best comedy in years. Dunham is treated like the second coming of Woody Allen or Larry David. But when it comes to non professional critic's, it's gets legit hate. Mostly for Lena Dunham, some hate "Girls" cause she gets naked and get's to score with hot guys out of her league, how arrogant she comes off in interviews and that the show just isn't as great as the press and critics like to announce it as.

So is a case of a creator/main star been just a dislikeable sort overshadowing her own show. Or do some just don't find the show funny. For me, it's a decent show that's been overhyped by the critics cause it's about women. I think their are funnier shows about women that deserve more credit then Dunham got.

As someone who has seen more than a season of the show, I'd say it's very over-hyped. I would agree that it's decent in terms of its production value. But other than that, I don't particularly enjoy it. It's not that it's not funny specifically; I really just don't have a good time while watching. It's not terrible, but it's pretty self-indulgent across the board - every character in it is unlikable and none of the story lines are satisfying to follow, imo. The reason it's called Girls and not Women is very pointed in the show. Obviously, that's intentional, but I don't think it works.

And as a straight woman, I wanted to like a show with four actresses as leads, especially because so many of those fail. I also don't have a problem with Dunham's nudity whatsoever because it does nothing for or against me. I never once thought any of her character's love interests were out of her league - don't really think that's a real thing tbh. I admit, I think Dunham is kind of a tit, but that doesn't bother me insofar as choosing to watch her creation. TV creators are kind of all bothersome in some way.

For me something like Fleabag, created by a woman. I can understand the hype and thought it was a excellent show. The main character and the other side characters are all unlikeable but you still care for them as the writing is perfect. With Dunham and the whole Girl's love in from critic's, just never understood it. The show is decent and that's as far as it get's, 7.3 rating on IMDB is fair enough for me. I think some people believe that it's a HBO show (which gives it cool kudos) that it's automatically a great show. Also I think the critics were waiting for any comedian show who's creator was female to come around and Dunham struck gold.

I said it for years that time will not be kind to Girls and I stand by that. Dunham is definitely a tit, and she didn't help herself or her show with her behavior.

I agree, I think Dunham's timing was kind of perfect for her show, however you feel about it. Which is a shame, because there are so many that are decent and, like Fleabag, actually work.
