Did you notice all the reviews are from biased right-winged sources and Reagan organizations? These reviews make the film sound pretty awful, like a bad Pure Flix film. “With God, anything is possible” so what’s the conflict or struggle? Lame.

reply

They are likely the ones given early access to the film.

all of those sources are affiliated with ronald reagan, of COURSE they'll blindly give positive reviews.

Slant Magazine: https://www.slantmagazine.com/film/reagan-review-dennis-quaid/

They give it 0 stars. Their criticism is that the movie, basically, is too pro-Reagan and too religious. So I take this review with a grain of salt; the reviewer is likely a woke leftist

Washington Post: https://www.washingtonpost.com/entertainment/movies/2024/08/29/reagan-quaid-biopic-movie-review/

They give it 1.5 stars out of 4. Their criticism is that the movie doesn't cover enough historical details at length, such as the Iran-Contra affair, his acting career, his domestic policies, and the 1981 air traffick controllers strike. The review also doesn't approve of how the movie unfavorably casts Reagan's detractors as "screaming hippie protesters."

Thanks for sharing. The review answered my worst concerns I watched the trailer. It looks like a whitewashing of a consequential president. It tries to cover a 90-year lifetime in over two hours, which is too much and leaves major events with shallow focus. It should have been a miniseries if they wanted to cover his lifetime.

This is the bio for the Slant Magazine author on Rotten Tomatoes:

"I am 26 years old and a recent college graduate working/living in San Diego. I have always loved movies, but the obsession took over about 5 years ago. Aside from movies, I enjoy reading, sports, and hanging out with friends."

I wouldn't take their review seriously at all lol

wait...you're actually rooting for this movie to be good??? it will be awful. why would you take the Slant review with a grain of salt but not the reviews from the Reagan Foundation? What the hell does the Reagan Foundation know about movies?

Another review: https://keithandthemovies.com/2024/08/28/review-reagan-2024/

3.5 / 5.0 stars

This review says that the movie probably tries to cover too much, as the movie tries to condense 90+ years into 2 hours. The review says that Quaid is solid in this movie though (none of the early reviews seem to trash Quaid's performance .... yet)

Here is a positive review, 3.5 stars out of 4. This review claims Quaid is Oscar worthy here

Chicago Sun Times: https://chicago.suntimes.com/movies-and-tv/2024/08/29/reagan-review-dennis-quaid-movie-ronald-jon-voight

They give a negative review, claiming the movie is too positive about Reagan. Jon Voight also seems to do a comedic Russian accent. A lot of critics are targeting the movie's decision to frame Reagan's story through Voight's character

Hollywood Reporter: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-reviews/reagan-review-dennis-quaid-1235985648/

Like Chicago Sun-Times, they say the movie is too positive about Reagan ( "overly reverential"). They also say the movie skims along the surface of Reagan's life, and they don't like the non-linear format. They say the movie is like reading the cliffnotes of Reagan's life. Like Chicago-Sun Times, they're puzzled by the movie's decision to frame Reagan's story through Jon Voight's KGB character

ABC News: https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory/movie-review-quaid-sounds-part-reagan-glowing-commercial-113247482

This review praises Quaid's performance, but their criticism is that the movie doesn't offer historical insight. The say the movie skims over events and portrays Reagan too glowingly. They give 1.5 stars out of 4

Boston Globe: https://archive.ph/lP1Qo

In a highly critical 0-star review, they say Quaid fails to capture Reagan's charm, and they criticize the movie for deifying Reagan and containing too many religious messages

Saturday Evening Post: https://www.saturdayeveningpost.com/2024/08/review-reagan-movies-for-the-rest-of-us-with-bill-newcott/

They say this flawed movie is saved by Quaid's great performance

Wall Street Journal: https://archive.ph/Q3Wdv

This review also says that Jon Voight's performance as the KGB agent is comically bad. The review says the movie has the feel of a made-for-TV film from the 1980s or a campaign film made for the Republican Convention. The review also claims that Quaid, who barely looks like Reagan, fails to capture Reagan's voice and intonations; and it claims that the movie is too hagiographic
