12/11 "Embarrassing the Sister Wives" Discussion Thread

Discussion thread for tonight's episode.

The following is from the DirectTV Guide for this episode.
Season 7 Episode 4 "Embarrassing the Sister Wives"
A windstorm wreaks havoc, Madison receives the embarrassing gifts her mother dreaded and wedding preparations go awry at this polygamist bridal shower; Mykelti and Tony announce their engagement.

reply

 Janelle wanting to go fishing on the wedding day

reply

How ironic - Mykelti is getting married next Saturday and Sunday is when they're showing Maddie's wedding.

reply

Yeah, and I think that next week is the next to last episode for the season since they've went with 2 hour episodes.

reply

Pay for their honeymoon also? I hate to pull out Emily Post here but etiquette says the bride's parents pay for the wedding, while the groom's parents pay for the rehearsal dinner and the honeymoon.

What is grinning Tony's family contributing to this fiasco?

reply

Are we even going to see slug boy's parents at the wedding? Of course it'll be next June or July before TLC shows the wedding and by then the divorce will probably be in the works. I wonder if his family isn't in the picture much since Catholics don't take too well with members defecting to Mormonism! At least they don't where I was raised. If Kody wouldn't have taken the bait to pay for the honeymoon, I fully expected slug boy to say, "well you can take out a 2nd mortgage for it" like he did about the wedding! He should have a big L on his forehead, IMO! I hope I'm wrong but I don't trust him! ?

reply

Come on DD, you know TLC is footing the bill on this!

reply

Did I hear wrong- I thought one of the wives was going on about how polygamous weddings were small, religious, sacramental affairs. I hate when they get all self-righteous. Is polygamy a religion or a lifestyle? I haven't watched this show as regularly as some. Is Kody an ordained minister? I never really gave much thought about their religion vs lifestyle.

reply

Kody isn't an ordained minister that I know of. However, he has been known to hold Sunday services (for lack of a better way of putting it) in their home for the family.

reply

He used the Universal Life Church to get his certificate that allows him to perform marriages. Anyone can become ordained.

He received his mail order ordination when Maddie asked him to perform their marriage.

reply

Never said he couldn't be ordained. I had no idea he was. Yes, I'm well aware ANYBODY can become ordained. All you have to do is get online.

reply

I guess we'll see Tony & Mykelti frolicking on some beach in about 2 seasons if TLC is paying for their honeymoon & won't that be an attractive sight? 

reply

If I were betting, I would bet that the entire drama of when Mykelti and Tony's wedding would happen was cooked up for the show. They probably set up the date in agreement with TLC.

Regarding Robin and her comments about LDS weddings, implying that they happen fast because they can't wait to get in the sack. While there may be some truth to that, she has this patronizing streak when she talks about her religion vs. others (plyg vs. LDS, plyg vs. monog, etc.) that creeps up every now and then. I mostly like Robin but I find that very off putting.

Janelle/Maddy is interesting. Janelle just does not enjoy anything domestic, it seems. I can relate, I hate artsy craftsy activities, party planning, anything like that. The other wives, and obviously Maddy, can't relate.

reply

Not enjoying crafts is one thing, but Janelle removed herself from almost all things wedding, for her oldest daughter/1st child to get married she could have been more involved.
